‘Hollywood Arts’ Star Martin Kamm Breaks Down Oscar’s Dramatic Love Triangle

Step aside, Beck! Today, Oscar is the resident heartthrob at Hollywood Arts, but for him, having swarms of heart-eyed fangirls follow him down the hall is just an average Tuesday. (Warning: Hollywood Arts Season 1 spoilers ahead!)

On October 15, Hollywood Arts welcomed a new generation of performing arts school students, learning from wacky but well-intentioned former student Trina Vega (Daniella Monet). Among those students is Oscar (Martin Kamm), a long-haired stud who is no stranger to attention. However, when his sister Emmy (Alyssa Miles) steps out from behind the tech booth and into the spotlight, he takes a hit to his “fragile ego.” Luckily, he’s got two close friends (with major crushes on him) who are eager to hype him back up.

Following the first episode drop of Hollywood Arts Season 1, Martin Kamm sat down with Swooon to break down Oscar’s journey so far and, of course, his dramatic love triangle between besties Pepper (Emmy Liu-Wang) and Jen (Erika Swayze).

Kamm admitted that being caught between Pepper and Jen’s affections is “not anything unusual for him. It’s kind of like breathing.” Since Oscar’s the “popular kid” in the halls on Hollywood Arts, Kamm’s not convinced that Pepper and Jen are the only students vying for his attention.

That said, when it comes to whether Oscar sees any real leading lady potential with either Pepper or Jen, Kamm revealed that his true love, at the moment, is the spotlight. “I think in that stage of his life, he’s so focused on his career,” he told Swooon. “The love of his life is his craft. It’s his passion for the arts, and that’s what he’s solely focused on. So he’s not even thinking about [romance].”

Personally, however, Kamm does lean towards Team Pepper. He explained, “Pepper and Jen are so different, and I love them for each of those reasons. Jen is a little bit more prim, [and] Pepper’s just kind of out there and wacky.” Pointing towards Oscar’s own wacky behavior, Kamm said, “I feel like he would lean more towards Pepper if I had to choose.”

We’re hoping that Oscar’s chemistry with both Pepper and Jen will be tested in the episodes and potential seasons to come. After all, any future Hollywood Arts couples have major shoes to fill, following in Beck (Avan Jogia) and Jade’s (Elizabeth Gillies) footsteps from the original series.

Kamm, whose character has already been compared to Beck, explained, “When it comes to the character of Oscar, I think people will be pleasantly surprised that there may be a visual similarity, but to the core of who Oscar is, [he’s] much different.” In fact, he’s a lot more of a Trina than a Beck.
