‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Couples Guide: Who Ends Up Together in the Books & More

The Crazy Rich Asians movie has been making us swoon since 2018, so we already know its sequel TV series will do the same. Fans of Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novels and the first adaptation already know that Crazy Rich Asians’ main couple is Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) and Nick Young (Henry Golding), who navigate the latter’s complicated family dynamics.

Unless you’ve rewatched recently — we don’t blame you if you have, especially with the TV show adaptation news — the particulars of their romance might be a little murky. Even murkier, probably, are the details about the other relationships involved in their story, including Astrid’s (Gemma Chan) love life. So, what do you need to remember about them all? And who appears in Kwan’s second book, China Rich Girlfriend?

Do Rachel and Nick end up together Crazy Rich Asians?

Though Crazy Rich Asians isn’t the end of their story, Rachel and Nick end the first book (and movie) engaged, despite Nick’s mother (Michelle Yeoh, who has a recurring role in the TV series) not approving of Rachel. Without spoiling all the details, they get their happy ending in the book trilogy.

Do Rachel and Nick appear in the sequel book?

Rachel and Nick are again the primary couple of the sequel book, which picks up right before their wedding. Nick and his mom are estranged because of his pending nuptials, and as Rachel finds her biological father, she also has to juggle the Young family drama.

Are Rachel and Nick coming back for the Crazy Rich Asians TV show?

Wu and Golding are among the confirmed series regulars, so rest assured they’ll be the focus of Crazy Rich Asians Season 1. It’s confirmed that it will pick up after the events of the 2018 film, though if it will follow China Rich Girlfriend to the letter isn’t yet known.

Astrid, Nick’s cousin and a wealthy socialite, doesn’t get quite a happy ending — at first. Astrid discovers early on in Crazy Rich Asians that her husband, Michael, a former soldier starting a tech company, is cheating on her. Insecure, he blames their difference in incomes for their issues. By the end, Astrid packs her bags and moves away with their son. Predictably, they aren’t an endgame couple.

Do Astrid and Michael appear in the sequel book?

Though it seemed like there was no coming back for Astrid and Michael in the first film, they’re back together by the start of the second book, with Michael feeling more equal to his wife due to the success of his tech company. Their issues don’t stop there, however, but we won’t get into spoilers.

Neither Chan nor Png have been confirmed to appear in the TV show, though more casting news could be revealed as time goes on.

Astrid and Charlie

You may remember that, in a mid-credits scene, Astrid’s ex-fiancé, Charlie, appears briefly, hinting at a greater involvement in the future. At this stage in the adaptation universe, they haven’t gotten back together official capacity, though readers know they end up together.

Does Charlie appear in the sequel book?

Charlie becomes a larger character in the sequel book, in which readers find out that he was responsible for making Michael’s firm successful. Like Astrid, Charlie is navigating a rocky marriage with his wife, Isabel, as he becomes more involved in Astrid’s life.

Is Charlie in the Crazy Rich Asians TV show?

Neither Shum Jr. nor his character have been confirmed to appear in the forthcoming series.

Fiona and Eddie

Do Fiona and Eddie end up together in Crazy Rich Asians?

Eddie is Nick and Astrid’s financier cousin from Hong Kong who’s obsessed with status, and he’s married to the more grounded, old-money Fiona. They share three children. By the end of the first film, they’re still together, despite their drastically different outlooks on life. That holds true in the book series.

Do Fiona and Eddie appear in the sequel book?

The couple are only minor characters in the second book, going on to play a bigger, more tumultuous role in the third.

Are Fiona and Eddie in the Crazy Rich Asians TV show?

Chieng has been confirmed as a series regular, so it seems Eddie could play a bigger role in the sequel TV series than he does in China Rich Girlfriend. The return of Loke’s Fiona hasn’t been announced as of yet.

Kitty and Alistair

Do Kitty and Alistair end up together in Crazy Rich Asians?

Alistair, a filmmaker, is Nick’s cousin and Eddie’s brother. Kitty is introduced as Alistair’s gold-digging, soap opera star girlfriend. They get engaged, but she leaves him for billionaire heir Bernard Tai when she’s led to believe that Alistair isn’t as rich as she thought. You’d be right if you assumed they don’t get back together.

Do Kitty and Alistair appear in the sequel book?

Kitty does reappear, becoming more prominent throughout the second and third books. Her relationship Bernard goes wrong (to put it lightly) and she ends up with another billionaire, Jack Bing, and more hurdles ensue. Alistair only returns in the third with a new love interest.

Xie and Hii, as well as their characters, aren’t included among the confirmed cast at present.

Araminta and Colin

Played by: Sonoya Mizuno and Chris Pang

Do Araminta and Colin end up together in Crazy Rich Asians?

Obviously, we can’t forget about the married pair that brought all these characters together in the first installment! Colin is Nick’s childhood best friend, and his fiancée-turned-wife is set to inherit a billion-dollar resort chain. They do indeed marry — in a gorgeous, lavish ceremony — by the film’s end.

Do Araminta and Colin appear in the sequel book?

Araminta and Colin are minor characters throughout the series, maintaining a stable relationship throughout and ending up with a child together.

Are Araminta and Colin in the Crazy Rich Asians TV show?
