‘The Love Hypothesis’ Director Talks Potential Sequel to Olive & Adam’s Love Story

Could a Love Hypothesis sequel be in the works?

When Claire Scanlon, the director of The Love Hypothesis, sat down with Swooon, she revealed where she stands on developing a Love Hypothesis sequel. According to the boss behind the adaptation, she’d love to continue working on the Love Hypothesis universe — as long as author Ali Hazelwood pens another novel.

When asked if there are any plans for a Love Hypothesis sequel in the works, Scanlon shared, “I think that’s a great question for Ali Hazelwood. I think she might have an answer for you. She’s the creative genius behind all of this.” That said, she admitted, “You know as much as I know, but I would say follow through and get yourself over in front of Ali and ask the question.”

Still, if there were a Love Hypothesis sequel, she would be thrilled to direct. “I have to say, just like I love making solid comedies, and if there’s romance in them, great.” Looking back at her career, which has spanned from directing episodes of The Office to the Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell rom-com Set It Up, she told Swooon, “Jim and Pam had romance, and you know I love that. The People We Hate at the Wedding had romance between Dustin Milligan and Kristen Bell, and then obviously Set It Up as well.”

The reception of The Love Hypothesis has already proved that the world is looking for a little love. “Watching the response of the people who’ve already seen this movie has been pretty eye-opening,” Scanlon explained. “I can’t think of a reason why I wouldn’t want to put more happiness out into the world.”

So, will Olive and Adam be back on our screens anytime soon? Right now, we don’t know. But if there’s a story to tell, Scanlon is ready to tell it.
