What To Know

  • McKenna opened up about a romantic pairing with his character that never got the chance to be fully explored.
  • McKenna joined the ABC soap in 2025.

Chris McKenna is thinking about what could have been for Jack Brennan. His character was found dead in the September 1 episode of General Hospital, putting an end to Jack’s time in Port Charles.

As the actor reflected to TV Insider about his time playing the WSB chief, McKenna pointed out the romantic pairing he had wanted to see unfold between Jack and another major GH character. McKenna called it the “greatest love story GH never told.”

The untapped relationship he’s talking about? Jack and Nina (Cynthia Watros). “I don’t want to put words in Cynthia’s mouth, but I think we both felt that we had a really special kind of crackling chemistry between us, and it was gonna be really fun, so I will continue to operate under the belief that ‘Brennina’ is the greatest love story GH never told,” he said. “We didn’t get a chance to really explore that, but there were so many great moments in there, and there was so much great material that I was given, and I was given such a cool, gray, complex character. I’m very fortunate that I got as much as I did.”

When McKenna joined General Hospital in 2025, taking over the role of Jack from Charles Mesure, he was excited to dive into the Jack and Anna (Finola Hughes) love story “that they were very clearly going to do,” as well as the love triangle between Jack, Anna, and Carly (Laura Wright). However, the show pursued a different direction with the Carly and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart). “Jack got the short end of the straw there,” McKenna admitted.

Jack’s relationship with Carly was derailed when she discovered that he’d recruited her daughter, Josslyn (Eden McCoy), to the WSB. “I do think that Jack had an extremely unfortunate run of bad luck circumstances that influenced a lot of story since I took over,” McKenna said.
