Formed in London in 1968, Yes is one of the pioneering bands of progressive rock, known for their complex compositions, virtuosic musicianship, and expansive, symphonic sound. The original lineup—Jon Anderson (vocals), Chris Squire (bass), Peter Banks (guitar), Tony Kaye (keyboards), and Bill Bruford (drums)—blended rock, classical, and jazz influences into a distinctive style marked by extended song structures and poetic, often abstract lyrics. With the addition of guitarist Steve Howe and keyboardist Rick Wakeman in the early 1970s, Yes released a series of landmark albums such as Fragile (1971) and Close to the Edge (1972), cementing their reputation as genre-defining innovators.

Despite numerous lineup changes over the decades, Yes has maintained a dedicated global fanbase and a legacy of musical experimentation. Their sound evolved through different eras, incorporating synthesizers, pop elements, and orchestral arrangements, especially during the 1980s with hits like "Owner of a Lonely Heart." Founding bassist Chris Squire remained the only constant member until his death in 2015. Today, Yes continues to tour and record, with newer members carrying forward the band’s expansive vision and intricate sonic identity, earning them a 2017 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
