The Mavericks

The Mavericks Headshot

Band

The Mavericks are an American band known for blending country, rockabilly, Latin, and Tex-Mex sounds into a distinctive and energetic style. They formed in Miami, Florida, in 1989 and gained popularity in the 1990s with hits like "Dance the Night Away," "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down," and "What a Crying Shame." Their sound often features vibrant brass, accordion, and rhythms influenced by frontman Raul Malo’s Cuban heritage.

Raul Malo’s rich, operatic voice is one of the group’s hallmarks, and he’s often compared to Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley. The band broke up in the early 2000s but reunited in 2012 with new music and tours, continuing to earn critical praise for their genre-blending style and electrifying live shows.
