Takeoff, born Kirsnick Khari Ball on June 18, 1994, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, was an American rapper best known as a member of the influential hip-hop trio Migos, alongside his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset. The group gained prominence with their 2013 single "Versace," which was remixed by Drake and peaked at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their debut studio album, Yung Rich Nation, was released in 2015, and they achieved their first number-one single with "Bad and Boujee" in 2016, featuring Lil Uzi Vert. Takeoff released a solo album, The Last Rocket, in 2018.
On November 1, 2022, Takeoff was fatally shot at a bowling alley in Houston, Texas, during a private event. He was 28 years old. Authorities reported that he was an innocent bystander during the incident.
In the year following his death, legal proceedings have continued. A suspect was arrested and charged with murder; however, as of April 2024, the suspect was released from house arrest, and the case remains ongoing.
