Sheri Moon

She has portrayed reanimated corpses, seductive psychopaths and Michael Myers' mother, but Sheri Moon Zombie counts sleeping late and watching movies with her husband, musician and director Rob Zombie, as her idea of the perfect day. The California-born, Connecticut-raised actress, who legally changed her name after marrying the former White Zombie singer on October 31, 2002 (she swears it was not planned), initially dreamed of using her distinctly girlish voice to launch a career as a voice-over artist. But after a chance meeting with the dreadlocked singer before a show in New Haven, CT, Zombie decided to join them on tour and eventually starred in several music videos, starting with 1994's "Feed the Gods." After the band broke up in 1998, she joined Rob on his first solo tour and used her background in dance and design to choreograph routines and create costumes for his backup dancers. She portrayed a reanimated corpse in his "Cabinet of Dr. Caligari"- inspired music video for "Living Dead Girl" (1999), which marked the beginning of their creative relationship; since then, all of her performances, aside from a brief role in Tobe Hooper's "Toolbox Murders" (2004) and a guest spot on Showtime's sex-addict drama "Californication" (2007-14), have been directed by her husband. She appeared in numerous other videos before making the transition to film with 2003's "House of 1,000 Corpses." The brutal horror-exploitation film, in which she portrayed the beautiful but deadly Vera-Ellen "Baby" Firefly, became a cult success and she reprised her role in 2005's equally gruesome sequel "The Devil's Rejects." The next several years saw Zombie expand on her ghoul-next-door appeal: she launched her own clothing line, Total Skull, in 2006, and portrayed Michael Myers' mother in the successful 2007 remake of "Halloween" and its 2009 sequel. Since appearing on "Californication" the multi-talented Zombie has fulfilled her voice-over dreams by portraying a superhero's sidekick in "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto" (2009) and starred as a haunted radio DJ in "The Lords of Salem" (2012). She doesn't bite, but Sheri Moon Zombie has built her career on making you think she will.

Born Sheri Lyn Skurkis in San Jose, CA, Zombie grew up in suburban Connecticut listening to heavy metal and going to rock concerts. She moved back to California soon after graduating from high school but often returned to the East Coast to visit family and friends. She briefly studied broadcasting at a local college and was figuring out a way to break into voice acting when in the early '90s a mutual friend introduced her to Rob Zombie. They quickly began dating and when Zombie decided to join the horror-fantasy rock band on tour, it wasn't long before she surfaced in such WZ videos as "Feed the Gods," which was also featured in a scene from the 1994 comedy "Airheads." When the band amicably parted ways and Rob went solo, Zombie accompanied him on tour, serving as choreographer and costume designer for his intensely theatrical shows. His decision to cast her as the title zombie in the video for his wildly successful single "Living Dead Girl" was just the first of many collaborations. In 2003, a year after the pair eloped, she made her film debut as the devilishly demonic Baby Firefly in "House of 1,000 Corpses," which revolved around Baby and her family's torture of an unlucky group of friends, and returned as the blonde hellraiser a few years later in the on-the-run sequel "The Devil's Rejects." After launching her '70s metal-inspired clothing line Total Skull in 2006, Zombie starred as a bloodthirsty were-officer in "Werewolf Women of the SS," Rob's fake movie trailer for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's gritty "Grindhouse" (2007). That same year she appeared in his well-received remake of John Carpenter's horror classic "Halloween" as Deborah, Michael Myers' despondent but forgiving mother; and briefly surfaced in the slightly less successful "Halloween II" (2009). The late 2000s found Zombie branching out into new creative territory. After being cast as a nurse on "Californication," Zombie was featured in the animated film "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto" as Suzi X, the title hero's sultry sidekick sister. Directed by Rob and based on his comic series of the same name, the sexually-charged film took three years to make and featured the voices of Rosario Dawson, Paul Giamatti and "Devil's Rejects" actors Sid Haig and Bill Moseley. Since the film was released straight to DVD in 2009, Zombie has worked with her husband on a 2010 episode of the long-running "CSI: Miami" (CBS, 2002-2012) and portrayed a radio DJ who inadvertently releases a coven of witches in "The Lords of Salem" (2012).
