‘Love Is Blind: Netherlands’ Season 1: Which Couples Are Still Together?

As a Dutch girlie who is completely obsessed with Love Is Blind, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the newest spinoff in the franchise. And let’s be honest, Love Is Blind is already a global phenomenon. With the Boston season coming soon, and Love Is Blind: France and Love Is Blind: Japan stealing our hearts before it, the franchise is showing no signs of slowing down.

But I had a feeling the Dutch installment would be particularly juicy. Why? My people are known for being brutally direct, and boy, did they deliver.

Love Is Blind: Netherlands brought hot singles from Amsterdam to Maastricht (it’s a ridiculously small country, okay?) together to blind date in the famous pods. After plenty of love triangles — and even a few love squares — we ended up with five engaged couples heading off to Zanzibar, because fun fact, the Dutch absolutely love Zanzibar.

We also got a racist comment that was trending across social media, an embarrassing meltdown from a grown man, and, naturally, some unexpected talk about lizards.

So, who actually found love behind the pods? Let’s find out who got engaged on Love Is Blind: Netherlands Season 1.

Meinou and Marc of 'Love Is Blind: Netherlands'
Netflix

Meinou & Marc

Status: Still Together

Very early on in the pods, it became clear that Marc was one of those people you either love or hate. Some women were immediately drawn to him (looking at you, Meinou), while others seemed ready to escape the pod after about two minutes.

Marc quickly went all-in on Meinou, with the pair bonding over their views on life and goals for the future. But Meinou continued dating Ludo too, before eventually deciding to put all her eggs in Marc’s basket. The pair got engaged pretty quickly, and Marc was especially pleased when he finally saw her in person. Meinou seemed equally chuffed with her new fiancé, giggling away as they got to know each other IRL.

But the shadow of Ludo followed them all the way to Zanzibar. It turns out Marc is quite the jealous type because when Meinou mentioned that Ludo had suggested they still go surfing together sometime, Marc was not happy. He became extremely angry, much to Meinou’s surprise and initially claimed he would confront Ludo about it. Thankfully, she managed to talk him down.

That wasn’t their only bump in the road. When Meinou asked Marc to share what he was grateful for that day — recreating a tradition she has with her family — he completely brushed off the idea. Then Marc pointedly told Meinou that she doesn’t ask enough hard-hitting questions, leaving her feeling like she was being attacked rather than getting to know her fiancé.

Interestingly, the other couples seem to see Marc and Meinou as the most loved-up pair. But as the season progresses, viewers are starting to have some serious doubts about whether these two will actually make it down the aisle.

Jaslynn and Ludo of 'Love Is Blind: Netherlands'
Netflix

Jaslynn & Ludo

Status: Still Together

Once Ludo was dumped by Meinou, he put all his energy into Jaslynn. The pair hit it off, with Jaslynn opening up about her spiritual side — including the psychic who told her that her future husband would wear a grey suit. Luckily, when they finally met, Ludo was indeed wearing a grey suit. Otherwise, Jaslynn might have had to return him immediately!

Things seemed to be going well for the couple in Zanzibar, and Jaslynn was pleasantly surprised by Ludo’s more playful side. However, she soon noticed that her fiancé was quite the flirt, particularly when those striking eyes of his came into play.

Jaslynn wasn’t exactly thrilled by Ludo’s conversation with his former match, Meinou, but things got even more awkward when she spotted what she felt was a flirty exchange between him and Yasemin.

The real trouble started when Jaslynn told Ludo that she had discussed the situation with the other women. He became incredibly angry and denied the details she thought she remembered. Suddenly, what had seemed like a pretty solid relationship was looking decidedly shakier.

Then, on their walk home, Jaslynn asked Ludo the question no one wants to ask their fiancé: Did he still love her?

He didn’t answer. Trouble ahead.

Another topic of contention is children, as Jaslynn wants to start trying in the next two years, and Ludo isn’t as certain. Can Jaslynn get married without knowing that kids are coming soon?

Mika and Juriaan of 'Love Is Blind: Netherlands'
Netflix

Mika & Jurriaan

Status: Still Together

Now this is the couple that has the internet buzzing!

Jurriaan immediately put off a few women in the pods when he revealed that he has two cats. When one woman mentioned she was allergic, he made it very clear that he wasn’t going to give up his cats. Thankfully, Mika was more than happy to sign up to be their cat mom! The pair hit it off and progressed quickly, until they suddenly hit a very serious bump in the road.

What happened with the viral racist comment on Love Is Blind: Netherlands? We’ve got the details.

While discussing their names, Mika decided not to reveal her surname because she didn’t want to give away her ethnicity. Jurriaan was confused and said he had assumed she was just Dutch. When Mika asked whether it would matter if she wasn’t, Jurriaan replied: “I wouldn’t fall for a fully Black woman, you know?”

Yikes.

Mika was understandably disappointed, and not just because the comment directly applied to her. “Babe, didn’t you say you fall for the person?” she asked.

“Yeah, that’s what matters,” Jurriaan replied.

The exchange left Mika questioning what she had been told about him. Jurriaan didn’t seem to understand why she suddenly became distant, while Mika felt his comment directly contradicted what he had previously said about falling for someone based on who they are. Naturally, that left her wondering what else might not be true.

In a confessional, Mika explained just how deeply the comment affected her: “It hits me pretty hard because I’ve been rejected for that in the past, that people might have had a certain prejudice against me, maybe they had a certain idea because I have a different skin color — and that doesn’t work for me.”

Despite the awkward conversation, they still got engaged. The internet, however, has not been quite so quick to move on. Viewers have been calling out Jurriaan’s comment and questioning how Mika could overlook what he said.

When they finally met face-to-face, things seemed much more positive, with Mika particularly appreciating Jurriaan’s height. But after that conversation, it’s safe to say we’ll be watching this couple very closely. Time will tell what comes next.

Mirella and Gino of 'Love Is Blind: Netherlands'
Netflix

Mirella & Gino

Status: Still Together

Mirella found herself caught between Wouter and Gino, and choosing between the two was no easy task. She entered the pods excited to fall in love again, having previously thought she’d found “the one” before her five-and-a-half-year relationship ended with a broken heart.

She wasted no time getting serious with both men, even inviting them to join her family skiing for Christmas. There were practical considerations too: Wouter had the advantage of living in Amsterdam, just like Mirella, while Gino was based in Rotterdam. But Gino wasn’t exactly playing it cool, declaring, “It’s Mirella or go home.”

Wouter, meanwhile, was feeling conflicted. He didn’t quite have the same overwhelming feeling of love for Mirella that he’d heard some of the other men describing, and there was another complication — he and Gino had become good friends. Mirella eventually admitted that she felt the same way and decided she wanted to pursue things with Gino instead.
Mirella and Gino got engaged and, so far, they’ve managed to avoid the drama that has plagued some of the other couples in Zanzibar.

For now, anyway…

Yasemin & Roel of 'Love Is Blind: Netherlands'
Netflix

Yasemin & Roël

Status: Not Together

Now this was a delicious love square if we’ve ever seen one!
Yasemin and Claire were both dating Roël and Miguel, creating quite the complicated situation in the pods. For a while, it seemed like the couples would neatly pair off as Yasemin and Roël, and Claire and Miguel — and the participants themselves —  seemed to think that was how things would play out, too.
Then Miguel threw a serious curveball.

He told Yasemin that she was his first choice and ended things with Claire. Yasemin was completely thrown. She explained that she hadn’t really considered Miguel as a serious option because she assumed he would ultimately choose Claire. As a result, she hadn’t allowed herself to fully open up to him.

Despite the revelation, Yasemin ultimately chose Roël, explaining that she and Miguel simply didn’t have enough time to catch up and see where things could go. Roël, meanwhile, finally found someone willing to embrace both him and his pet lizard. Romance is alive and well!

The pair got engaged, but there were already signs that Yasemin wasn’t quite as excited about the match as Miguel had been. When the couples arrived in Zanzibar, she admitted to Roël that she was struggling with her final decision, although she was trying to work through it. She also confessed to producers that she was getting more platonic than romantic vibes from her fiancé.

And ultimately, Yasemin called it quits, much to Roël’s frustration. He felt she hadn’t given them a real shot, but she disagreed.

But judging by the sneak peek for the next episodes, this might not be the end of Yasemin and Miguel’s story. The pair appears to meet up, and perhaps there’s still something there after all…

But what happens when they come face-to-face with Claire and Roël at the group mixer?

Let’s just say there is some piping hot drama ahead.
