Everything We Know About Kennedy Ryan’s ‘Hoops’ Series Headed to Netflix
Another romance adaptation by beloved romance author Kennedy Ryan is anything but a Long Shot!
In September 2026, Deadline announced that Netflix had scored the rights to Ryan’s sports romance book series, which includes Long Shot, Block Shot, and Hook Shot. A TV series, titled Hoops, is currently in development at the Finding Her Edge and Crew Girl streamer. What can we say, Netflix loves a good sports romance — and so do we!
Below, we’re breaking down everything we know so far about Kennedy Ryan’s Hoops adaptation, including what the first season could be about and updates on casting, the premiere date, and more!
What is Kennedy Ryan’s Hoops about?
The first novel in her Hoops series follows a forbidden love set in the explosive world of the NBA. The official book description reads, “Think you know what it’s like being a baller’s girl? You don’t. My fairy tale is upside down. A happily never after. I kissed the prince and he turned into a fraud. I was a fool, and his love – fool’s gold.”
The summary for the “slow-burn, second-chance survivor romance” continues, “Now there’s a new player in the game, August West. One of the NBA’s brightest stars. Fine. Forbidden. He wants me. I want him. But my past, my fraudulent prince, just won’t let me go.”
The first book, Long Shot, follows the love story between Iris DuPree and August West.

In September, Ryan couldn’t help but share how thrilled she was about the upcoming adaptation. “I’m so incredibly excited to share that my HOOPS series has been optioned and is in development at Netflix. *emit war-drum splitting scream of joy!!!!* All 3 books—Long Shot, Block Shot and Hook Shot—will be explored in the series. These books hold a very special place in my heart and in my catalogue. Long Shot made romance genre history and changed the shape of my career. This series is truly important to me and means so much to so many,” she wrote on Instagram.
When will Hoops premiere?
There’s currently no set premiere date for Hoops. The series is currently in development with Adrian Dukes (All American) set to write and executive produce. Other EPs include Will Packer Media, Chris Paul‘s Ohh Dip!!! Entertainment, Tracey Baker-Simmons, and the author.
Basketball fans are well aware of Paul, aka CP3, a former NBA point guard. “I always knew that if HOOPS were ever adapted, I would want a baller on board. And it is such a perfect fit to have the legendary @cp3 and his @ohhdip crew here to help us get the basketball RIGHT!!! A dream!” Ryan said in her Instagram statement.
The author gave a shoutout to the rest of her “stellar” team. “@adriandukes is our snow runner. Working on All American the last few years, he knows a lot about making shows that center sports and bring the emotional depth. We’re so lucky to have you!” she wrote. Ryan also called Packer “one of the most iconic, prolific, successful producers in the game.”
She continued, “And last, but certainly not least, my producing partner @tbakersimmons, a TRAILBLAZER in the unscripted space, is bringing her fierce intelligence and proven storytelling instincts to our project under my Scribechick Media banner. We have been close friends for nearly 20 years. From dreaming at your dining room table to THIS and all the other things we are cooking up. So very happy we get to do life together, sis. What a blessing! This is a PROCESS. We still have work to do. As more details are available, I will share. Thank you to all the readers who, through your support, continue to make these dreams come true!”
Who has been cast in Hoops?
There’s no set cast for Hoops just yet! That said, plenty of Kennedy Ryan fans have weighed in with their picks for the main roles, including Aaron Pierre, Tyriq Withers, or Rome Flynn for August, and Jasmine Cephas Jones or Jaz Sinclair as Iris.
