‘Fake Skating’ Adaptation Finds Its Dani & Alec! All About the 2027 Movie

On September 24, Sony Pictures revealed the leads for Fake Skating, an adaptation of Lynn Painter’s novel by the same name. The adaptation will be directed by Josh Boone, who was behind The Fault in Our Stars. The studio tapped two leads from recent TV favorites Sterling Point and The Shards, making us even more eager for the fake dating romance to hit our screens next year.

What is Fake Skating about?
Fake Skating follows childhood best friends Dani and Alec who reunite in high school after she moved away years ago. While the now-star hockey player is nothing like the boy she remembers, the two find themselves closer than ever — as each other’s fake boyfriend/girlfriend.
Who has been cast in Fake Skating?
Luckily, we don’t have to wait any longer to find out who will play Dani and Alec in the adaptation. Dani will be played by Amélie Hoeferle, who recently proved she is quite the yearner while playing Ramona in Sterling Point. She is joined on and off the ice by Graham Campbell of The Shards, who will play Alec. Announcing the duo, Painter posted a first look video, which you can watch below. Let’s just say, the chemistry is chemistrying with these two.

When is Fake Skating coming out?
Along with the main cast announcement, Painter revealed the official release date for the film. She confirmed, “Amélie Hoeferle and Graham Campbell star in Fake Skating, coming exclusively to theatres 7.16.2027.” Mark your calendars: July 16, 2027 is going to be a big day for readers everywhere!

It’s safe to say that our Fake Skating leads have gotten the author’s stamp of approval. After announcing the casting news on Instagram, Painter commented, “You guys, I have been losing my freaking MIND ever since I saw this amazing duo’s chemistry read!!! Seriously, they are Dani/Alec PERFECTION – I cannot wait for you to see – and I am BEYOND excited they’re on-board.”
