Lind is a 45-year-old film director from Copenhagen, though she and Isaac are currently based in New York. Per her website, she went to film school in Cape Town in 2006 before launching a career in filmmaking. She primarily makes documentaries, though Lind and Isaac have worked together on some fiction projects, including Lind’s Oscar-nominated short film The Letter Room.
She wrote a message “to [her] talented husband” after The Letter Room was made. “Thank you for letting me put you in a fat suit during a Summer heat wave,” says her June 2020 Instagram post. That same year, Lind and Isaac started their own production company, Mad Gene Media.
She continued, “Thank you for trusting me to direct you while I was 7 months pregnant. I know that wasn’t always easy. Thank you for encouraging me and showing up and doing absolute magic like you always do. And thank you for growing the most impressive moustache I have ever seen. You are the funniest man I know. How did Oscar Isaac and Elvira Lind meet?
During a 2013 NPR interview, Isaac recalled meeting Lind at a party. The actor said he was “forced” to be there, and he went dressed as Llewyn Davis while method acting for his role in 2013’s Inside Llewyn Davis.
“It was a month before shooting,” he said. “And then I was sitting in the corner just eating. I was the only person eating at the party. And this girl who ended up, she’s a documentary filmmaker, so obviously she spotted the weirdo and went directly to that one. And [she] sat with me and talked to me for a long time. I guess she liked the whole thing.”
How long have Oscar Isaac and Elvira Lind been together?
Though the actor hasn’t confirmed his exact romance timeline with Lind, they started dating shortly after that party, which took place in 2012.
Lind is best known for her 2017 feature documentary Bobbi Jene. The project began in 2012. Lind filmed a performance piece, Arrowed, where Isaac collaborated with dancer Bobbi Jene Smith. According to Vogue, in 2012, Lind was “Isaac’s then-girlfriend.”

He also revealed why he decided to tie the knot with Lind. “[Elvira]’s Danish — she’s not a citizen, and she was very pregnant, and there was an element of figuring out, ‘Well, where are we going to be?’ And us wanting to be a family unit a bit more,” he explained.
“But, you know, at the time, right before it happened, my mom was ill, and so I saw [Elvira] carrying my child, bathing my sick mom — seeing her do that, I just thought, ‘I want to be with this person forever and ever,” Isaac continued. “I just wanted to take that extra step as well. And so my mom passed in February, and we got married in March, and our son was born in April. It was a wild year.”
