  • Her family, including her Godbrother Rod, is concerned about her decision to marry in Nigeria so quickly.
  • Ashia brought her family to Nigeria under the pretense of a vacation.

While Ashia Montgomery and Maxwell Okeke‘s wedding is only a few days away on 90 Day Fiancé, her family is less than happy with her choice to get married so fast.

In Season 12 of 90 Day Fiancé, viewers met Ashia, a Pentecostal prophetess-in-training from Alabama. After her fiancé Maxwell’s K-1 visa was denied, Ashia flew to Nigeria to marry him in his country. Deciding that the marriage should be sooner rather than later, she tasked her Godbrother Rod with getting the rest of her family to Nigeria for her big day, without telling them what the occasion was.

Scroll to find out everything we know so far about Rod and the rest of Ashia’s family, including why they are so hesitant for Ashia to tie the knot in Nigeria.

Who is Ashia’s Godbrother Rod?

Rod has been a fixture in Ashia’s story since Day 1. During Episode 2, she explained, “Rod is my Godbrother, so we have a really close relationship, like almost as if he was my real brother.” At the same time, Ashia made it clear that Rod is overly protective of her. According to Ashia, when she first told Rod about Maxwell, he was “a little confused,” believing that “all Nigerians are scammers.” Things have gotten worse since then.

A day before Ashia’s wedding, Rod asked her to meet with him and Kathy, saying it was important. At the dinner, Rod told Ashia, “I came all the way here to meet [Maxwell], and I think… basically, I think he has a lot of challenges ahead of him in the U.S.,” specifically with getting a job. According to Ashia, she was hoping that Rod would get Maxwell a job in the United States.

Rod explained, “I just want you taken care of,” before accusing Ashia of being desperate to have kids and take on someone’s last name. At the end of their conversation, Ashia stormed away when Rod slammed the table, telling him, “I don’t no violence.”

Who is Ashia’s mother?

Ashia’s mother, Juliette, came to Nigeria with her daughter to meet Maxwell’s family. She was also introduced during Episode 2 and has been with Ashia her entire journey.

Who is Ashia’s family friend Kathy?

Ashia revealed that Kathy is a family friend whom she’s known her whole life. “She’s kinda like an aunt to me,” she said. During Ashia’s dinner with Rod and Kathy, Kathy explained, “I feel like your mom and your sisters are not going to tell you this because they love you so much. But, I think that you are moving a little bit too fast… It seems like you just came so far in this, you don’t want to turn around.”

Who are Ashia’s sisters?

Ashia’s sisters have also arrived in Nigeria ahead of her wedding. Jacolah is her older sister, and Glena is her middle sister. According to Ashia, before she told her sisters about her wedding, she got them to Nigeria by telling them that they were going on a vacation in Africa. She explained, “My sisters, they are usually supportive, but they have no idea that we’re getting married.”
