Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil) remain one of daytime TV’s most beloved supercouples. While Marcil hasn’t been on General Hospital in over a decade, she and Benard have often reminisced about the famous Port Charles pairing.
On August 13, which happened to be the 33rd anniversary of Benard’s first appearance as Sonny, Marcil reflected on Sonny and Brenda’s love story. Her post reignited the fan frenzy over the GH couple, with one fan saying, “Sonny could use a little Brenda in his life.”
Marcil, who debuted as Brenda in 1992, posted an old photo that featured a 1990s poster of Sonny and Brenda on the side of a telephone booth in New York City. “Have you ever kissed passion on the lips?” the tagline on the poster read. Marcil added the Instagram caption, “Who is/was the love of your life?”
Fans immediately took to the comments with quite the reaction about Sonny and Brenda’s epic romance. “Funny, I was watching old GH episodes the other night when I couldn’t sleep. Brenda was and always will be the love of Sonny’s life .. if the day comes, he ever leaves the show he should ride off into the sunset with Brenda,” one fan wrote.

Another commented, “Sonny and Brenda were the centerpiece of 90s GH, ain’t nothing gonna change my mind!!!!” In a lengthy message, a fan declared that there’s “never been a better love story in daytime television. Vanessa and Maurice lit up the screen and made GH what it was in the 90’s. These two talented actors made the story real and gave us so much feeling. Nothing was better than getting home from high school at 3 pm to tune in every single day for years. The writers ruined this couple and as fans we can only hope that they do Sonny and Brenda justice when it is time for Maurice to retire from GH. It will be the fairytale happy ending that so many fans are hoping for.”
Even Kimberly McCullough, who plays Robin Scorpio, had to chime in. “I love everything about this,” she commented on Marcil’s post.
