‘Sterling Point’ Star Explains Annie’s Feelings for Ellis & Rory at End of Season 1
What To Know
- Annie navigates a complicated love triangle in Sterling Point Season 1, developing close relationships with both Ellis and Rory.
- She initially pursues a romance with Rory but ends up with Ellis before deciding to stay in Sterling Point.
- Actress Ella Rubin explains how Annie feels about each boy by the end of the season.
Though her family history is the most complicated thing in her life, Annie’s (Ella Rubin) love life is getting there in Sterling Point Season 1. Once she arrives in Sterling Point, she quickly befriends island local Ellis (Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie), who becomes a reliable presence in her life as she uncovers secret after secret about her family. But her childhood friend, Rory (Daniel Quinn-Toye), who’s vacationing in Sterling Point for the summer, serves the same role. (Warning: Spoilers ahead for Sterling Point Season 1!)
Even though there’s interest on Annie’s end toward Ellis, Annie kisses Rory first. She spends most of the season with Rory romantically, before she and Ellis get together just before she’s set to go back to New York. They make the most of the little time they have left together, while Annie — for lack of a better word — ghosts Rory. During an interview for Swooon’s Sizzle Reel spotlight, Ella Rubin broke down the love triangle, explaining how Annie’s feelings differ for each boy.
After her kiss with Ellis officially kicks off their romance, Annie asks Ramona if she knows what love feels like. “How do people be with someone?” Annie wonders during their Episode 7 conversation.

Is Annie in love with Ellis by the time she decides to stay in Sterling Point, while the rest of her family — including Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle) — head home to New York City? During that aforementioned conversation with Ramona, Annie is trying to “figure it out and parse it out,” according to Rubin. “I don’t think she knows yet,” Rubin added. “I think she knows she feels something that she’s never felt before that’s like completely unique.”
She continued, “I think that is the difference between how she feels with Ellis and Rory… With Rory, he kind of sparks the fire that allows her to realize what she feels for Ellis because it is very real with both of them. And I think that there’s very real feelings there on all ends.”
Annie is still assessing her late mom’s patterns and realizing things about herself in the process, according to Rubin. She’s still figuring out the “person she wants to be and how she wants to move forward in the world.” She added, “So I don’t know if she knows what is love for her yet, especially as a teenager. I think that that’s such a a delicate specific thing, but I think [Annie and Ellis] are on the road.”
