The fate of Married at First Sight couple Nick Uhlenhuth and Courteney Landis has been revealed a week ahead of Season 20’s finale.

The two became one of the most talked-about pairings from the start, given Nick’s history of going on reality TV shows. He’s an alum of The Circle and Perfect Match. Though Nick and Courteney could see the ways they aligned, they also struggled to connect and get on the same page throughout the experiment. In Episode 14, they made a decision about their future.

Are Married at First Sight’s Nick and Courteney still together?

Nick and Courteney decided to call time on their relationship in Episode 14 during a group therapy session two weeks before Decision Day.

“What an absolutely insane experience. Taking a break from social media for the next week,” Nick wrote on Instagram Stories after the episodes dropped.

It seems Nick and Courteney are still on decent terms, however. They are currently following each other on Instagram, and they’ve both left friendly comments on each other’s posts since the show began airing.

Why did Nick and Courteney break up?

Just before Episode 13’s group session, Nick and Courteney argued. Nick felt like Courteney wasn’t allowing him to be himself, and she wasn’t paying him any compliments. Nick also explained that he felt like she was invalidating him. Courteney didn’t think Nick was on the same level of emotional maturity as her. Before they joined the group, Nick admitted that he didn’t know how their relationship could work long-term.

The conflict continued into the group therapy session. Nick said they were compatible as friends, but not romantically. Expert Paul C. Brunson asked them point-blank whether they wanted to end their marriage early. While Courteney was unsure at first, she decided a short while later that there was no reason to stay together. Nick agreed that someone had to “rip off the band-aid.”

“I don’t think either of us is wrong, but maybe we’re just wrong for each other,” Nick said, later telling Courteney that he gave their marriage her best shot.

What happened between Nick and Courteney in Season 20?

We got to know a bit about 28-year-old Courteney and 31-year-old Nick during their introductions in Episode 2, as they discussed their backgrounds and what they were looking for in a partner with the matchmaking experts. The experts determined that the two of them aligned in their values and ideal partner traits.

They both said they were, for the most part, more conservative politically, though it could vary on certain issues. Courteney is a bodybuilder and wanted someone athletic, and Nick played lacrosse in high school and college. There were more things they had in common, but long story short, the experts also said Courteney’s “unfiltered-ness” would help Nick’s “filtered-ness.” Nick and Courteney were attracted to each other when they first saw each other.

However, the struggles began early on. First, Courteney thought Nick wasn’t being playful and fun, while Nick said he wasn’t receiving physical affection. They worked it out during their honeymoon, but more conflicts occurred back in Seattle.  For one, Courteney was set on moving to Oregon to raise her future family, but Nick didn’t want to.

The biggest point of contention, though, was Courteney feeling like Nick was still being surface level and her emotional vulnerability wasn’t being reciprocated. After it came up in group therapy, Nick countered that he was trying to go deeper with Courteney, but they couldn’t get on the same page.
