‘Black Dagger Brotherhood’ Season 2 Teaser Shows Rhage & Mary’s Chemistry

We’ve only seen one teaser of Rhage (Alexander Cubis) and Mary (Audrey Hare), but they’re already making us swoon. On September 28, Passionflix revealed the first footage from The Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2, which will adapt the second book in J.R. Ward’s supernatural romance series after the first installment made a splash last year.

Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 1 followed Dark Lover, the introduction to Ward’s world where a brotherhood of vampires fight against evil lesser demons. Now that fans got their taste of the king of the vampires, Wrath (Robert Maaser), and half-vamp Beth (Olivia Grace Applegate), they’ll get their fill of Lover Eternal‘s Rhage and human Mary, as the former deals with his beastly curse. Swooon has all the latest updates on Season 2 below.

When will The Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2 premiere?

The Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2 will premiere just in time for Halloween — on October 29.

Back in June 2025, series star Sia Zami confirmed on the Astras Awards red carpet that Season 2 was on the way. In December, Musk shared a status update on Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2. “We cast a couple of our characters, our very important characters, for Season 2 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, and that’s so exciting,” she said in an Instagram video. “J.R. Ward and I are very happy with the people that we have chosen to come on for Season 2.”

Who are the leads of The Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2?

Cubis’ Rhage is the next brother to step into the spotlight, and Season 2 will dive into his love story with Hare’s Mary. Passionflix released a first look teaser of Mary in April.

“The instant I saw Audrey, I knew she was the Mary who has been inside my head for all these years,” Ward said in a statement. “We are so fortunate to have her joining our incredible cast, and I know she’s going to be the heart of Season 2!”

Who else is in the cast of The Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2?

In addition to Applegate’s Beth, the rest of the brothers are expected to be back, alongside Maaser and Cubis. We’ll get to see more of Joel Cederberg as Tohr, Andrew Biernat as Zsadist, Sia Zami as Vishous, and Zack Ignoffo as Phury.

Swooon previously revealed that Bobby Hogan will play John Matthew and Mariah Davis will play Bella. “Bella is both ethereal and grounded, and that combination is not easy to find. Mariah brings a natural grace and emotional intelligence that makes us incredibly excited to see her bring Bella to life,” Musk said in a statement.

Ward said she “knew Bobby was our John Matthew the moment I saw his audition! He has the ability to seem both youthful and grave, and the fact that he is fluent in ASL meant he was beyond the right fit. We are grateful to have him!”

On June 17, Passionflix announced that Jon Haslam has been cast as Mr. O in Season 2. We won’t give too much away, but Mr. O has major villain energy.

What is The Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2 about?

Known as the ladies’ man of the group, Rhage lives with a unique curse, unpredictably transforming into a terrifying and uncontrollable dragon creature known as The Beast, which fans got a glimpse of in Season 1.

He eventually crosses paths with a human named Mary, a cancer survivor who ends up on the lessers’ hit list and must depend on the Black Dagger Brotherhood for protection. Rhage and Mary find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other, despite the fact that the relationships between vampires and humans don’t usually have happy endings.

This book also introduces other fan-favorite characters from the novels, like Bella, a beautiful vampire who becomes entangled with the twins, Zsadist and Phury, as well as John Matthew, a pre-trans vampire who grew up in the human world and has a mysterious connection (which was teased in the post-credits scene of Season 1) to the Brotherhood.

On June 17, Musk revealed that the Passionflix team had screened the first two episodes of The Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2. “They are so good, and I’m so excited,” Musk gushed in a video. “I think you’re gonna love it.” She then said that Ward would be getting the episodes next, and then the Passionflix team would get to work on VFX, music, and more. She promised fans that the episodes are “looking good.”

It didn’t take long for Ward to react to those episodes hitting her inbox. “O.M.F.G. You wont believe what they opened with… Holy f*ck lololololololololololol,” she captioned her reaction video. (We need to see those episodes ASAP!)

Who directed The Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2?

Musk directed all of Season 1. In her podcast chat about the Season 1 finale with Ward, she hinted that she’d be willing to do it again, so it is expected she’ll be behind the lens for Season 2 as well.
