A ‘Heated Rivalry’ Movie! All About the Christmas Special With Scott & Kip
Heated Rivalry is the gift that keeps on giving. The hockey romance show, based on Rachel Reid‘s hit novels, is currently filming Season 2, and Season 3 is on the way, too. But there’s more. There’s going to be a Heated Rivalry movie, according to Deadline. (Clearly, the show airing in theaters was a hint.)
Okay, so we’re sure you have a lot of questions. When is the Heated Rivalry movie coming out? Will it be before Season 3 or after? Will it be Shane and Ilya-focused? Swooon is breaking down all the updates we have about the Heated Rivalry movie report.
What will the Heated Rivalry movie be about?
The movie is being “described as a Christmas special or a holiday-themed episode,” per Deadline. Nothing is concrete, and HBO Max nor Crave has made any official announcements, but the movie will reportedly focus on Scott (François Arnaud) and Kip (Robbie G.K.). The film will expand on Scott and Kip’s romance, which got the spotlight in Episode 3 of Heated Rivalry’s first season.

The inspiration for the movie likely stems from Reid’s short story epilogue “Merry Christmas, Scott and Kip!” from Game Changer. The short story revolves around Scott and Kip’s first Christmas together.
When will the Heated Rivalry movie be released?
Get ready for a Heated Rivalry-filled 2027. (Fine by us.) The report claims that the Heated Rivalry flick will be released in December 2027 and will have a theatrical release.
Season 2 is expected to premiere in spring 2027. Since Seasons 2 and 3 are shooting back-to-back, the third season will likely premiere in 2028.
Who will be in the Heated Rivalry movie?
Obviously, if the reporting is correct, Arnaud and G.K. will be reprising their roles as Scott Hunter and Kip Grady. No other casting details have been revealed, but other characters from the series are expected to return. If the movie is directly inspired by the short story, then Kip’s father, George Grady (Matt Gordon), would likely return.
Deadline reported that Connor Storrie‘s Ilya and Hudson Williams‘ Shane will not be in the movie. They are not featured in the short story.
Could the Heated Rivalry movie be the opportunity to introduce Eric Bennett, one of Scott’s New York Admirals teammates? Creator Jacob Tierney confirmed that Eric wouldn’t be in Season 2, but a Scott and Kip movie could introduce us to Eric and possibly even dabble in Eric’s romance with Kyle (Matthew Finlan), the bartender at the Kingfisher who appeared in the first season.
