What To Know

  • Brittany Snow says Sophie’s relationship with Margo intensifies in Season 2 of The Hunting Wives.
  • Snow interprets Sophie’s attachment as an addiction.
  • Season 2 premieres November 26 on Netflix.

The Hunting Wives‘ Sophie (Brittany Snow) and Margo (Malin Akerman) may be a match made in chaotic heaven. Despite trying her best to not get caught under Margo’s spell of seduction in Season 1, the newest member of the Maple Brook housewives club can’t resist. Based on Snow’s latest comments, Sophie’s addiction to Margo ramps up even more in Season 2.

Both women aren’t on the best of terms at the end of Season 1 — Margo used Sophie’s gun to murder a teenager who was about to expose Margo’s affair with her friend’s teenage son. Then, though Margo doesn’t know it going into Season 2, Sophie ran over Margo’s brother and hid his body. Regardless, Sophie and Margo “can’t quit each other,” according to Snow.

On the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Snow gave her “hot take” about The Hunting Wives. “It’s not really talked about, but [showrunner] Rebecca Cutter and I really agree on this, is that I think that Sophie is an addict in a way, and she sort of displaces and sort of mismanages her addiction to other things,” the actress said.

She added that in the first season, Sophie bites her nails, and the question of whether or not she’s an alcoholic is left up to question. “But she becomes really fascinated and almost addicted to Margo in this way of, this person’s going to solve this emptiness that I feel, which is, ‘I need to be this perfect mom. I can’t be who I am anymore. I’m moving to this town, and I want to be this free sort of different woman that I’ve been caged to now become.'”

She added, “And I think she latches on and becomes addicted to the idea of Margo, and also falls in love with her at the same time, which is a really dangerous combination. And [she] gets mixed up in this whole sort of murderous plot because she can’t quit this woman. And Season 2 was even more of a reflection of that.”

Snow explained that it was a hot take because the addiction aspect of Sophie’s dynamic with Margo isn’t spoken about. “That’s a choice that I made,” she said.

Snow described the notes she got from directors, including Maggie Kiley, during Season 2 filming. “She was like, ‘You are a crack addict,” she recalled. “Like, you need to go into every scene when it comes to Margo with, ‘I’m going to die if I don’t get her.'”

Cutter previously told Swooon, “I can say that I, as the showrunner, and May [Cobb], as the author [of The Hunting Wives], we’re very aware that they are the heart and soul of the show,” Cutter teased at the ATX TV Festival. “All of the drama is around their dynamic. I don’t want to give you any specifics, but I want to make everyone aware that I know that that’s why you’re watching, and we are doing everything we can to give you what you want.”
