Breaking Down the Tom Brady, Candice Swanepoel & Joan Smalls Drama
After Tom Brady was spotted hanging out with Alix Earle on New Year’s Eve, then again at the Super Bowl in February and at a Hamptons party in July, he seemingly moved on with a supermodel (or two). The former NFL star has found himself at the center of drama between supermodels and former besties Candice Swanepoel and Joan Smalls.
In recent weeks, fans noticed that Swanepoel and Smalls unfollowed each other on social media. Smalls added fuel to the fire with social media comments that give more context to what allegedly happened between the longtime friends. Is Tom Brady dating Candice Swanepoel?
Yes, People and Us Weekly both confirmed that there is a romance brewing between Brady and Swanepoel. “They’ve been dating for a while now,” People reported. “They both live in Miami, so it’s very convenient. They’re spending a lot of time together.”
Brady divorced Gisele Bündchen (yes, another supermodel) in 2022 after 13 years of marriage. He was subsequently linked to Earle, Kim Kardashian, and Irina Shayk, but has mostly kept tight-lipped about his love life.
Swanepoel, meanwhile, was in a 14-year relationship with Hermann Nicoli before their 2018 split. They were engaged, but not married, when they broke up.
What happened between Candice Swanepoel and Joan Smalls?
In addition to Smalls and Swanepoel unfollowing each other on social media, Smalls’ Instagram comments have revealed some insight into their apparent falling out.
In an alleged Instagram comment, which was deleted, Smalls reportedly wrote to a fan (per DeuxMoi), “There is no girl code with some people. And the disrespect and carelessness in how they treat you is unimaginable. There is no going back. Some people lack humility and moral compass. And the way they gaslight, lie, and minimize your feelings is the worst slap in the face after 15 yrs [of] friendship. Not a sorry said or written. Onwards and upwards!!!”

DeuxMoi then received a tip that claimed Smalls and Brady “dated on and off for approximately a year,” and that Swanepoel “reportedly expressed concern about the relationship out of respect for Brady’s ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, and cautioned Joan to be careful.” After Smalls and Brady ended their romance, Swanepoel allegedly became romantically involved with the Fox Sports analyst herself.
Smalls seemingly confirmed this rumor in a comment on an Instagram post about the drama. “Two words: SUMMER HOUSE ! That’ll explain everything,” she wrote, an apparent reference to Amanda Batula secretly starting to date West Wilson after his former fling with her friend Ciara Miller.
Per Just Jared, Smalls also responded to another comment that said, “I read the alleged feud is over drug addiction, she was trying to get the other help and that ultimately ended the friendship.” The commenter claimed that Smalls was the “addict,” and the model replied, “When it comes to a black/latin woman they always come for drug substance abuse. And this is harming. Meanwhile the real user of medications without a prescription from a different country is ilegal. Please don’t make me talk…”
