Scott Foley’s TV Love Triangles: He Picks Teams for ‘Felicity,’ ‘Scandal’ & ‘Scrubs
What To Know
- Scott Foley reflects on his TV love triangles from Felicity, Scandal, and Scrubs.
- Find out which teams he’s on as he gets candid about his characters.
TV love triangles are a tale as old as time, and no one is more familiar with that than Scott Foley, who has found himself wrapped up in at least three over the years, between Felicity, Scandal, and Scrubs.
After just reprising his role as Sean in Scrubs‘ ABC revival, Foley is getting candid about where he stands regarding picking teams in his previous projects. “Well, look, if we go all the way back to Noel and Ben, I’m rooting for Noel,” Foley begins, referring to the men who vied for Felicity’s (Keri Russell) heart during the run of the late ’90s-early ’00s drama. Scott Speedman portrayed Ben, and Foley was Noel. “You just got to root for Noel,” he reiterates.
As for Scandal‘s Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) lovers, Jake (Foley) and Fitz (Tony Goldwyn), it’s just as cut and dry in Foley’s eyes. “I love Tony Goldwyn as much as the next guy, but I think Jake got a raw deal. I’m gonna hear about this answer for decades to come, but I’m Team Jake,” Foley admits.

For those who may have forgotten, Jake was employed by the secret government agency B613, and Goldwyn’s Fitz was the president, giving D.C. fixer Olivia Pope a tough choice to make, especially when both men would act foolishly at times.
The one spot where Foley sways from his own character’s team, saying, “Sean and J.D., I don’t know. There’s a smarminess to J.D. that I always find endearing, and I think Zach [Braff] has done something with that character that you just hear the voice and you can see him in your head. I gotta choose J.D. on that one.”
And while that may be true for Foley, and certainly for the show’s original run, Sean’s return to Scrubs leaves the door open for potential romance with Elliott (Sarah Chalke) once more, without J.D. getting in the way. As fans will recall, Elliott was on-again-off-again more than once with Foley’s Sean over the years, but J.D. was the endgame… until the revival when their divorce status was revealed.
“I’m Team Sean for Elliott now, absolutely,” Foley confirms. “But part of you [still] roots for [J.D.]. He’s always dealing with something, so I have a huge place in my heart for him.”
