Costa D’Angelo Spills on ‘We Were Liars’ Season 2 & Friendship With Joseph Zada

While Tell Me Lies star Costa D’Angelo and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping lead Joseph Zada never cross paths on screen in East of Eden, playing young Adam Trask and his present-day son Cal Trask, respectively, the duo formed a tight bond filming the Netflix series in New Zealand. At the East of Eden premiere, D’Angelo revealed whether fans can expect to see them on-screen together in their next joint project, We Were Liars Season 2, which they wrapped just the night before.
During Season 2 of the Prime Video series, D’Angelo plays Lawrence “Pfeff” Pfeffernan, a character who readers of Family of Liars know met the young Sinclair sisters (Parker Lapaine, Elysia Roorbach, and Madison Wolfe) decades before the plot of We Were Liars Season 1. Diving into the new character, D’Angelo told Swooon that he’s “a little bit of a bad boy,” adding, “He’s a guy that’s searching as well. He’s a really interesting character to play. We find him in one place and lose him in another.”

With Zada returning as Carrie’s (Mamie Gummer) dead son, Johnny, one would assume that the generation separating the two characters would mean that they don’t share the screen in this adaptation either. That said, the Pfeff actor teased that they could have an on-screen moment after all. He explained, “You’re going to have to watch the show. See what happens. See if we cross paths.” That’s not a no!

When it comes to Season 2, D’Angelo was also able to share, “It’s a really, really beautiful written script from Carina [Adly MacKenzie] and all the writers, and the team, Julie Plec, and the team at Amazon did such a really beautiful job. So I can’t wait for people to see it.” He added, “We just wrapped last night. I flew from set straight here.”
Of course, he wasn’t the only one coming from the Beechwood set in Nova Scotia. When reflecting on working with Zada on both projects, he confessed, “We became such good mates, and then we haven’t been able to really escape each other… He’s just the best. He’s so inspirational. He’s such a great actor, such a kind person as well.”
