‘Double Lives of Suburban Wives’: Macy, Emily & Their Husbands’ Fight, Explained

Double Lives of Suburban Wives follows six adult content creators and their families, living undercover lives in St. Louis. While some have shared their spicy careers with their friends and extended families, like Emily and her husband, Nathan, others have struggled to “come out” to their communities, like Macy and her husband, Jim.

Why are Macy and Emily feuding?
From the start of the season, Macy has felt uncomfortable with Emily joining their tight friend group. During the third episode of Season 1, Emily went to a restaurant with Macy, Megan, and Heather. When Emily asked about a recent argument between Megan and Bri, Macy confessed, “I’m a little bit caught off guard by Emily asking so many questions about what’s going on with Megan and Bri. Like, she’s the new girl in the friend group, and I’m just trying to understand where her head’s at. Right now, I’m trying to prevent Emily from really stirring the pot.”
At the table, Macy told Emily, “I feel like you’re almost kind of talking like you’re close with us, but you’re not.” In response, Emily explained, “I was just inquiring about the barbecue that we were invited to, and we couldn’t come.” After that confrontation, Macy has worried about Emily breaking apart their friend group. Let’s just say, things have been tense.
What did Emily say about Macy?
While tension has been high, Emily and Macy reached their breaking point during their girls’ trip when Macy spotted a group of women taking pictures of her without her sunglasses. When Tammy recapped the problem to the rest of the group, Emily asked, “I have a question. If going into becoming a content creator, if you’re so nervous about people finding out and like being so worried and so upset, why would people become content creators?”
Bri fired back, “You can’t prepare yourself for every consequence. Like, you don’t know how you’re gonna handle a situation until you’re in it.” Emily explained, “I think that’s what baffles me so much. You knew this was going to f**king happen. But like, some people honestly think they’re not gonna get caught. Simmer down, it’s gonna happen.”
This clearly got on Tammy’s nerves, as she called her out, “When you made that comment… It is a big deal. It came across as a little rude to me.” At that time, Macy walked in as Tammy told Emily, “I am not okay with somebody dismissing the sheer amount of pain and struggle in trying to hide your identity. So maybe before you make assumptions like that, and say things like that, even if you’re just trying to be honest, because being honest without any empathy at all is just being rude.”

How did their husbands get involved?
After the argument, Emily called her husband, Nathan, and told him what happened. She told Nathan that the rest of the women called her “insensitive” because she says whatever’s on her mind and doesn’t put herself in other people’s shoes. Ultimately, she referred to the situation as the other women giving her an “intervention.”
The next day, all of the husbands arrived in the Ozarks to join their wives’ trip. When Nathan arrived, he explained, “I need to know, why is everyone bullying my wife?” When Nathan walked into the room with the rest of the group, he told them, “I’m pissed with each and everyone one of the girls here on how my wife has been treated.”

Why did Jim and Nathan get into a physical fight?
After Nathan tried to address the group, Jim immediately started arguing with him, telling him to come over to him. When Drew, Tammy’s husband, got between them, Nathan shoved him away. This led to Jim punching Nathan in the side of his head. Jim then grabbed Nathan and tackled him to the ground. The two continued to scuffle as a security guard from production broke them up. After that, Emily and Nathan packed their bags.
