Now, they finally shared a glimpse of the couple that started it all in Binding 13 and Keeping 13.

Johnny and Shannon’s heartbreaking-yet-romantic story got readers hooked on Walsh’s book series, making it a phenomenon online since it came out in 2018. What is Boys of Tommen‘s release date?

Production is currently underway in September 2026, but no official date has been shared. A 2027 premiere date is likely. Presumably, when it does premiere, Boys of Tommen will follow Prime Video’s standard rollout for new shows, releasing all episodes of Season 1 at once.

What is Boys of Tommen about?

Season 1 has been confirmed to cover the events of Binding 13 and Keeping 13. Set in 2005, both books follow Johnny Kavanagh, a star rugby player bound for the pros, and Shannon Lynch, a guarded new student at Tommen College. Johnny has been playing through a potentially career-ending injury and hiding it from everyone, while Shannon was bullied at her previous school and is physically abused by her father at home.

Despite coming from opposite worlds, they’re drawn to each other, especially once Johnny learns of what Shannon went through at her old school. Johnny makes it his mission to protect her. Romantically, he tries his best to resist Shannon, who he thinks is too young for him. He’s about to turn 18, while Shannon’s about to turn 16. That’s only one hurdle they face throughout their tumultuous journey.

“It’s just an unbelievable constellation of characters, but it’s also got such a specificity for place and the time,” Prime Video executive Nicole Clemens told Deadline. “It talks about abuse, about bullying, about mental health, and it’s about love. It’s a romance series.”

There are six books in the series so far, and Clemens already addressed the possibility of capturing the entire breadth of the story. “Who knows how many we do, but hopefully it goes for a long time,” she told Deadline. “There’s plenty of material and plenty of incredible, rich characters.”

Who is in the Boys of Tommen cast?

Newcomer Nancy Surridge will appear as Shannon, and Conor Sánchez (Mix Tape) will star opposite her as Johnny. Shannon’s troubled but protective older brother, Joey Lynch, will be brought to life by James O’Donoghue. Sophie McGibbon will play his love interest, Aoife Molloy. They’re the focus of Saving 6 and Redeeming 6, the books that come next after Johnny and Shannon’s.

Boys of Tommen director Brendan Canty said to Advanced Television, “To do justice to the world they’ve created, we knew that finding the right cast was going to be everything. We searched far and wide, receiving over 3000 casting suggestions from across the UK and Ireland, but from the moment Nancy, Conor, James and Sophie walked into the room, it was clear we’d found something beyond special. Each of them brings the spirit and emotional depth this story demands, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring Chloe’s world to the screen with this extraordinary young cast.”

“These characters have lived in the hearts and minds of millions of readers, and the response to them has been overwhelming, so finding the right cast was incredibly important,” added executive producer Poppy Cogan, per Advanced Television.

She continued, “Chloe has created such a rich, emotionally vivid world in these books, and as the writer adapting this story for screen, it’s been a privilege to be entrusted with bringing that world to life. I’m thrilled beyond words that we’ve found our Shannon, Johnny, Joey and Aoife in Nancy, Conor, James and Sophie — they are the perfect people to embody these roles.”

On June 25, Prime Video revealed eight new cast members, some of whom may lead their own seasons if all of Walsh’s books are adapted. Amelia May plays Claire Biggs, John Hewson — the son of U2 singer Bono — is Gerard Gibson, Indy Lewis is Lizzie Young, Alex Dunne is Hughie Biggs, Dixie Egerickx is Katie Wilmot, Daisy Jacob is Bella Wilkinson, Jonathan Heed is Cormac Ryan, and Cathal Ó Síocháin is Ronan McGarry.

Weeks later, Prime Video announced that Jamie Schneider is playing Patrick Feely, while Pierce O’Neill is being brought to life by James Craven. Lewis Brophy is playing Podge, Joey’s best friend.

Prime Video also revealed the actors playing some of Shannon and Johnny’s family members. Eoin Macken (La Brea) is Shannon’s father, Teddy Lynch; Róisín Gallagher (The Lovers) is Shannon’s mother, Marie Lynch. Shannon’s younger brothers, Tadhg and Ollie, will be played by Cobhan O’brien and Harvey Moloney. Amy Huberman (Finding Joy) is playing Edel Kavanagh, Johnny’s mother, and Jonathan Forbes will appear as Johnny’s father, John Senior. Tristan Heanue is Aoife’s father, Tony Molloy.

Who is making Boys of Tommen?

Cogan (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder) is the show’s lead writer and executive producer. Walsh, as mentioned, will executive produce alongside Cogan. Brendan Canty (Christy) will direct, and Ingrid Goodwin has signed on as a producer.

Drama Republic, Temple Hill, and wiip are producing with Amazon MGM Studios. The rest of the production team includes wiip’s Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, and Sean Flanagan, Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, James Seidman, and Annika Patten, and Drama Republic’s Greg Brenman and Deena Butt.

“The response from readers around the world has been overwhelming, and knowing that everyone behind this production and book shares my passion for telling this story authentically means the world to me,” the Boys of Tommen author said.
