First comes A Court of Splintered Harmony, then A Court of Forgotten Melody… but what’s next? Even though ACOTAR 6 only just hit shelves, we’re already thinking ahead. Forgotten Melody’s release date isn’t far off — January 2027 — but when can we expect the final installment in Sarah J. Maas‘ The Valkyrie Cycle?

The Valkyrie Cycle is the next phase of Maas’ romantasy series following the first five ACOTAR books. In Maas’ eyes, though it will consist of three bound books, it’s not a traditional trilogy. In the A Court of Splintered Harmony foreword, the author explains that The Valkyrie Cycle is one large, continuous story separated into four movements, concluding with Movement IV.

Keep reading for everything we know about the final Valkyrie Cycle book, aka ACOTAR 8.

Will there be an eighth ACOTAR book?

In case you’re a little confused by all the titles and movements, we’ll put it simply: Yes, there will be an eighth ACOTAR book after A Court of Forgotten Melody is published on January 12, 2027. Following Movement I in A Court of Splintered Harmony, A Court of Forgotten Melody is Movements II and III, and the third book is Movement IV.

What is ACOTAR 8‘s title?

The title of Movement IV remains a mystery (though “A Court of…” is a given). The titles for Books 6 and 7 were announced in August 2026, mere months ahead of their release, so we likely won’t know the name of Book 8 until some time after January 12.

What is ACOTAR 8‘s release date?

You’d be right if you assumed Movement IV doesn’t have a release date yet. However, Maas did share an update about its status during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast in March 2026.

“And then Part 4 has yet to be written because right now I’m trying to just get Part 1, which is out in October,” she explained. “And then Parts 2 and 3, which will be out in January, is one combined thing. So basically, it would be like three physical volumes, but it’s like one thing altogether.”

What is ACOTAR 8 about?

There’s no description yet for the final movement in The Valkyrie Cycle. We only know the loose framework of A Court of Forgotten Melody from its blurb, which reveals that Prythian might never be the same again, alliances are crumbling, and diplomacy can’t repair them. A united front is needed to fight against the continued threat of Koschei the Deathless. We can only imagine that the big showdown will arrive in the third book.

How many ACOTAR books will there be in total?

Maas hasn’t revealed if ACOTAR will continue beyond The Valkyrie Cycle, though she did tease another book back in 2024.

“There’s one book that I’m going to be writing after this next ACOTAR book that I’m very excited about. I’m not going to say what world it’s in. I’m not going to say anything,” she told Today. “But it’s a story that’s been brewing in the back of my mind for a long time… I think it’s going to be a very emotional book for me to write just in terms of the world I’ll be writing and the characters that might pop up.”

We’re staying on top of all things ACOTAR, of course, so check back for updates on Book 8!
