Milo Manheim’s New ‘Serendipity’ Movie: Everything We Know So Far
Serendipity is getting a new look. The beloved 2001 rom-com, which starred John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale as engaged strangers who fall for each other during a New York Christmas and search for each other seven years later, will get a new iteration more than two decades after its release.
Z-O-M-B-I-E-S and Dancing With the Stars alum Milo Manheim has been tapped to lead the new Serendipity, which is helmed by The Idea of You and Verity director Michael Showalter. Is the new Serendipity a direct sequel to the original or a remake? Who else is in the cast? Swooon has answered all your most pressing Serendipity questions below.
Is the new Serendipity movie a remake?
Showalter described the new film not as a remake or reboot, but a “rebuttal” of the original rom-com. “I am so honored and excited to get to live inside this iconic funny, romantic and intelligent world that Marc Klein has created,” he said in a statement, per Deadline.
Miramax / Everett Collection
He explained, “Same title. New characters. New story and new ideas about love and relationships. Me and Jordana [Mollick] and everyone at Semi-Formal relish the opportunity to make another film with the whole team at Amazon MGM as well as our new partners at Miramax.”
Who is Milo Manheim playing in Serendipity?
Though we know he won’t be playing any of the original’s characters, the 25-year-old actor’s new role is still under wraps. When the casting news was announced, Manheim’s mom, Camryn Manheim, sweetly wrote on Instagram, “Serendipity (noun): The unexpected discovery of something wonderful when you weren’t even looking for it. So excited for your next magical adventure!”
Who’s in the new Serendipity cast?
Obviously, Manheim will have a romantic costar, but that casting hasn’t been announced just yet. The rest of the cast also remains a mystery. However, some of the behind-the-scenes team has been revealed: The original’s writer, Marc Klein, has signed on for the new Serendipity. So has Simon Fields, who produced the original.
What is Serendipity’s release date?
The project was first announced in August 2026, with Manheim’s casting news dropping on October 13. No news of a shoot start date has been revealed. It’s unclear whether Manheim is still filming Disney’s live-action Tangled, which started production over the summer. In the meantime, you can watch the original Serendipity on repeat on Pluto TV.
