On the Season 1 finale of MTV’s Finding Carter, cop/mom Elizabeth Wilson (Cynthia Watros) relived the worst day of her life: Daughter Carter (Kathryn Prescott), who lived for 13 years as the daughter of a kidnapper posing as her mom, got captured again by the same wack job, Lori (Milena Govich), after Elizabeth agreed to allow Carter to be present at the sting operation meant to snag Lori.

Don’t worry. Carter won’t stay missing long. But the effect on Elizabeth is devastating. “She feels hugely responsible, and she has a lot of remorse,” Watros says. “She’s trying to be a good mom, and sometimes she fails, and that’s hard to take.”

The premiere picks up only an hour or two after Carter’s second abduction. In addition to the stress of searching for her daughter, one of Elizabeth’s darker secrets comes to light and further destabilizes her family. “It’s definitely a shock,” says Watros, “and not something Elizabeth wanted anyone to know. It’ll change everybody’s lives.”
