It’s back to the future Thursday night for the Legends when Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and the team storms 2166 for what sounds like a massive battle against Vandal Savage (Casper Crump).

“It’s very literally a big one, yeah,” agrees executive producer Phil Klemmer. “Conceptually it’s big and on a production scale, it’s certainly the biggest visual effects episode we’ve ever had. It’s spectacular…the visual effects are really like nothing I’ve ever seen. “

Noting that the eventful hour “eerily felt like a season finale,” Klemmer goes on to say that the episode features “giant robots,” a major development for Kendra (Ciara Renee) and a race against time as the team fights to vanquish Savage before he can take over the planet and erase them from history.

“We’re basically encountering Savage at the height of his powers, which means we’re also encountering him on the eve of his murdering Rip’s wife and kid,” offers Klemmer, adding that “we meet a new version” of the madman, via the introduction of his daughter Cassandra (Jessica Sipos). “We realize that he’s made the fatal mistake of loving someone here in the future at the sort of precipice of his world domination…he’s decided to care for another human being, which we all know is bad news.”

Hayyyyy daddy.

Hayyyyy daddy. Turns out, Savage (Casper Crump) has a kid!

Especially once Cassandra forms a connection with Snart (Wentworth Miller) and gets wind of what daddy is really all about. “As we know Snart had a troubled childhood of his own, so they become sounding board for one another and she comes to realize that her father, the great strong man, isn’t such a great guy.”

At the same time, Klemmer reveals that Kendra will find a key component needed to kill Savage, as well as the conviction to fulfill her destiny as the one who must do it. “This episode is all about taking Kendra and basically grooming her for the presumed death blow.” With only three episodes left after this, Hawkgirl had better get into the swing of things fast!
