NBC is moving a lot closer to adding a legal show to Dick Wolf’s franchise of Windy City-set shows about first responders.

“Dick Wolf has been responsible for some of the biggest hits in NBC history, including SVU and the current three Chicago dramas, Fire, P.D., and Med,” Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment, told TV Insider in a statement. “The Chicago universe will continue to grow as we are in active development on Chicago Law (working title).”

As we reported earlier from the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles, Wolf was eager to produce a legal series that could be introduced within the current three shows, but it was up to NBC to make the final decision. His fourth show on the network, Law & Order: SVU, is still going strong in its 17th year, and the Chicago franchise has become a solid player for the network on Tuesdays and Wednesdays against strong competition.
