Welcome to the occupation. In USA Network’s new futuristic thriller Colony, a mysterious totalitarian government has seized control of Los Angeles and split it into three blocks, imprisoning the city’s citizens within giant metallic walls and forcing them to live under constant surveillance. “There is a lot of confusion on many levels about exactly who, what and why,” executive producer Ryan Condal says. “No one person has all the answers.”

But one man is determined to infiltrate the system. During the occupiers’ arrival, Will Bowman (Josh Holloway) and his wife, Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies), were separated from their son, who is trapped in the block on the other side of town. After many failed rescue attempts, Will is approached by his block’s proxy governor, who promises to reunite Will with his son if he works for the government spying on the underground resistance. “The fact that Will is coerced causes tension for his family,” says exec producer Carlton Cuse. “The audience knows only what the characters know, and they don’t know much.”

Cuse and Holloway last worked together on ABC’s equally enigmatic Lost. “There are elements of [Holloway’s Lost character] Sawyer,” Cuse says. “But Will is more mature. He’s very genuine.”
