As expected, CBS has formally renewed its summer series Zoo for a second season.

Zoo was the most-watched summer scripted series on broadcast. The show was expected to return after CBS opted to end the run of Under the Dome. CBS hasn’t yet announced the fate of Extant, although that show is expected to return as well.

Zoo‘s thrilling stories clicked with audiences each week during a very competitive summer,” said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment. “We’re excited for viewers to see where our talented writers and cast take them as the adventure continues to unfold during season two in the ultimate fight of man vs. beast.”

CBS has also already announced the new zombie comedy thriller BrainDead,  from Robert and Michelle King, for next summer. (Big Brother will also return, of course.)

James Wolk, Kristen Connolly, Billy Burke, Nonso Anozie and Nora Arnezeder starred in season 1 of Zoo, which is based on the James Patterson novel about animals rising up against humans across the planet. Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Scott Rosenberg, Michael Katleman, James Mangold, Cathy Konrad, James Patterson, Bill Robinson, Leopoldo Gout and Steve Bowen are executive producers.
