The cast and creators of Phineas and Ferb discuss early drawings of the now-famous characters.

After 104 days of summer vacation (well, technically, 126 episodes–and double the adventures), Phineas and Ferb said goodbye to fans one last time on Sunday morning. TV Guide Magazine’s The Last Day of Summer: TV Guide Magazine’s Farewell to Phineas and Ferb featured creators Dan Povenmire (voice of Doofenshmirtz) and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh (Major Monogram), along with stars Vincent Martella (Phineas), Alyson Stoner (Isabella), Maulik Pancholy (Baljeet) and Dee Bradley Baker (Perry), as they reminisced about the show and shared their favorite moments.

At the panel’s end, a choked-up Marsh and Povenmire thanked the fans for their support, and received a standing ovation from the audience. The executive producers shared early rough drawings of the characters, which Povenmire dug up in his files from 1993. That’s how long ago the duo first conceived the show, which first premiered on Disney in 2007. The creators also shared trivia and secrets from that early development, including the fact that Doofenshmirtz was once blond… and originally named “Dr. Mittelschmerz.” Yes, the character was originally named after the clinical term for painful ovulation. Needless to say, they were asked to change the name.

Fans (including several young audience members) shared their experience with Phineas, including the fact that so many of them watch with their entire family.

Marsh and Povenmire have left the door open to revive the series at some point, and an unproduced screenplay has already been written for a major motion picture that eventually fell off Disney’s movie slate. The duo are now busy at work at Milo Murphy’s Law (formerly Mikey Murphy’s Law), about the grandson of the originator of Murphy’s Law. The creators shared early artwork of the new show’s characters; Milo Murphy will likely launch in late 2016 or in 2017.

Next up, the fall special The O.W.C.A. Files will focus on Perry the Platypus’ employer, the “Organization Without a Cool Acronym,” and its newest crime-fighting member, the rehabbed evil-doer Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz. Here’s the show’s opener:

Might there be more episodes of The O.W.C.A. Files, as a sort of defacto spinoff? That’s always a possibility too, Povenmire and Marsh say. Here’s a clip.
