Glee, “The Hurt Locker, Part One,” (Friday, Jan. 23, 9/8c, Fox)

It may be in its final season, but there have been signs of new life among the New Directions crowd. There are the likeable new recruits from Rachel’s (Lea Michele) glee club, the shockingly sensitive handling of Coach Bieste’s (Dot-Marie Jones) decision to undergo gender-reassignment surgery, and, of course, the increased presence of the show’s original cast members.

Still, we were missing the old bite brought on by Sue Sylvester’s (Jane Lynch) scheming; tonight, all that tasty nastiness comes back when the queen of the track suits returns to sabotaging the glee club. And what better way than to hypnotize hunky yet horribly dim Sam (Chord Overstreet) into doing her devious bidding? Then again, Sue may not have to do anything to undo all of Rachel and Kurt’s (Chris Colfer) hard work if word gets out that one of them is in cahoots with Will (Matthew Morrison) to make sure Vocal Adrenaline takes a fall at the upcoming show choir invitational.
