Breaking Bad Guys: Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters are odd-couple cops in the Michigan-set dramedy Battle Creek.

Battle Creek, the darkly comic new drama from Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad) and David Shore (House), is set in down-and-out Battle Creek, Michigan, where mobsters run the maple syrup trade and the police force is woefully under-equipped. That is until flashy FBI agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) arrives and partners with veteran detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) to clean the place up. “[Russ] has a misanthropic view of the world,” explains Shore. “And [Milt] trusts and believes in people.” That may sound like the usual buddy-cop cliché, but with Gilligan and Shore at the helm, expect anything but. We go for a ride-along with the cast.

“It’s not easy to get me out of New York,” Winters (with crew members) says. “But between David Shore, Bryan Singer–who directed the pilot–and Vince Gilligan, I had plenty of good reasons to head to Los Angeles.”

“Eddie’s a beast,” says Winters of costar Edward Fordham Jr., who plays bighearted Det. Aaron Funkhauser. “One swipe of his hand and he could probably take out the whole precinct!”

“Typically, I wouldn’t take a role that was all about someone’s looks,” Duhamel says about his swoon-worthy character. “So I said, ‘I’ll play the prettiest special agent ever, but only if he’s really f—ed up underneath.'”

“In the March 8 episode,” says Duhamel (with costar Miles Anderson), “we spoof Breaking Bad. There’s a syrup cartel, and we go undercover as salesmen from Vermont!”

“Eddie and Liza Lapira, who plays sassy Det. Erin Jacocks, get paired often on cases,” says Duhamel, “which is a funny visual because he’s, like, five times her size!” Adds Shore, “So many actors delight me in this cast.”

“Russ is always getting bruised and battered,” says Winters. “I take a lot of trips to the makeup trailer.”
