Showtime says it has renewed SMILF, a comedy created by and starring Frankie Shaw, for a second season.
Also featuring Rosie O'Donnell, Miguel Gomez, Samara Weaving and Alexandra and Anna Reimer, the series is slated to go back into production next year. Season 1 is to wrap up on the cable network Dec. 31.
The show is about a 20-something, single mom raising her son in Boston.
'I’m looking to get away from pop-culture Rosie,' says the actress.
"From its first episode, the refreshingly honest point of view of SMILF broke through with audiences, the press and on social media," Gary Levine, president of programming for Showtime Networks, said in a statement. "Frankie Shaw is a creative force to be reckoned with and we love having her on Showtime. Her show is funny and forthright, pointed and poignant, irreverent and relevant, all at once. We can't wait to see where Frankie takes SMILF next season."
