It took a few years, but love finally drove our singing heroine Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom) truly crazy. When Season 3 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend begins, getting left at the altar by fiancé Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III) has made her go totally Bananarama—in a 1980s-style musical number with pals Paula (Donna Lynne Champlin), Heather (Vella Lovell) and Valencia (Gabrielle Ruiz).
“Rebecca’s predicament resonates with her friends,” executive producer Aline Brosh McKenna explains. “So they get together for a good ol’ gabfest that turns into a tribute to the era’s up-tempo girl pop and the early days of videos, when the visuals were inexpensive and silly.”
The CW star posted a video of the Tony and Grammy winner on the set of the show.
Rebecca also assumes she can heal her own wounds by giving Josh a few of his own. But how do you get revenge on a man now training to be a priest? “It’s a challenge,” McKenna says. “She gets pretty good advice from her girlfriends about it in the premiere. But will she take it?”
