Melissa George Pregnancy Prompts NBC to Bump Heartbreaker for Chicago Med This Fall

Chicago Med is scrubbing in for Heartbreaker this fall on NBC.

NBC had originally planned to air Heartbreaker, a new drama starring Melissa George as a heart transplant surgeon, on Tuesdays at 9/8c in the fall. But production on Heartbreaker is taking a breather in order to accommodate George's pregnancy. Now, the Chicago Fire/Chicago P.D. spin-off Chicago Med will fill that time slot.

Essentially, that means the two medical dramas will swamp places. Chicago Med had been on the bench for a midseason berth; now, Heartbreaker will premiere later in the season instead.

This means megaproducer Dick Wolf will have four shows on NBC's fall schedule: Fire, P.D., Med and stalwart Law & Order: SVU. Busy Wolf also has the unscripted series You the Jury set up at NBC.

Chicago Med will air between The Voice and the variety series Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris until November, when Chicago Fire returns to the Tuesday 10/9c slot. That will make for a 2-hour Dick Wolf Chicago block on Tuesdays.

Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, Laurie Holden, Nick Gehlfuss and Yaya Dacosta star in Chicago Med, which takes place in a busy Windy City hospital.

Production on both Chicago Med and Heartbreaker starts this summer.

The Med/Heartbreaker switcheroo is the second change to the broadcast networks' fall plans. ABC previously pulled Sunday 10/9c series Of Kings and Prophets off the schedule, replacing it with new drama Quantico (which had been slated for Tuesdays at 10/9c). ABC hasn't yet revealed what it will now air on Tuesdays at 10/9c, although speculation has included Beyond the Tank or even the revival of the Dancing with the Stars results show.
