CMT is in preliminary talks with 20th Century Fox TV to bring back Tim Allen's sitcom Last Man Standing for a seventh season.

ABC said it canceled the show—despite good ratings—because it no longer plans to air comedies on Friday nights.

The Hollywood Reporter said CMT is trying to see if it can afford the long-running series, which co-stars Nancy Travis and Hector Elizondo.

Fans have started a petition in order to save the show.

However, cast members have not been approached yet about extending their contracts, which expire in two weeks, reported.

Allen tweeted last month that he was "stunned and blindsided" about the cancellation and fans swiftly began a campaign to keep the show on the air.

CMT revived the nighttime soap Nashville after ABC canceled it last year.
