What’s Worth Watching: A Decade of Dancing
Dancing With the Stars 10th Anniversary Special (Tuesday, April 28, 8/7c, ABC)
Shine up the mirrorball, because the dance floor is about to get busy. To celebrate 10 years and 20 glittery seasons of ABC’s enduring reality competition Dancing With the Stars, the show is staging a gala party, with 15 celebrity alums and seven returning pros kicking up their heels alongside the hosts and judges. The opening number alone will number 45 participants, Dancing‘s largest ensemble to date.
Among the hour’s highlights: an all-NFL Paso Doble, featuring past winners Donald Driver, Hines Ward, and Emmitt Smith, plus Kurt Warner, Jacoby Jones, Michael Irvin, and Jerry Rice; a dance-off between the most recent winning teams, Meryl Davis/Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Alfonso Ribeiro/Witney Carson; and a performance by current-season contestant Patti LaBelle (eliminated last week), singing her classic “Lady Marmalade” with Lil’ Kim and Season 17 champ Amber Riley of Glee. For once, the paddles will stay down, because on this night, everyone’s a winner.
