Scandal star Kerry Washington says the show's final season will be "better than ever."

The 40-year-old actress promised a "no-holds-barred" new season on Wednesday's episode of Good Morning America following word Scandal will end after Season 7.

"I think we're all a little sad but also we feel grateful to have the information," Washington said of the news. "Sometimes as an actor you don't know when you're going to be out of a job, so it's nice actually to go into the last season knowing that it's our last season.

"We're already talking about how it's going to be, like, no-holds-barred, better than ever, no holding punches, putting it all out on the table," she added. "We're choosing to leave."

Washington said earlier in the day on Twitter that she is "so grateful" for her time on Scandal. ABC confirmed prior to its upfront presentation Tuesday that the Shonda Rhimes-created series is coming to a close.

"She has had, for a while, a sense of how she wanted the story to end," ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey explained of Rhimes' decision. "She said, 'Look, I really feel like Season 7 is where I want to wrap up this story, because I always prefer to end a show where you're feeling on top as opposed to letting things fizzle out.'"
