TCM Remembers Albert Maysles 1926-2015 (Monday, March 23, 8/7c, TCM)

Pfft to The Jinx. Filmmaking brothers Albert (1926-2015) and David (1931-1987) Maysles didn’t need two missing women, a dismembered corpse, and a taped confession to make a gripping documentary. Tonight’s tribute to Albert, who died on March 5, opens with Grey Gardens (pictured), the Maysles’ profile of socialites-turned-oddities “Little Edie” Beale and her mother, “Big Edie.” Next, Salesman follows salesman. Murder finds the Maysles in Gimme Shelter, when a concertgoer is stabbed during the Rolling Stones’ set at Altamont. And the marathon concludes with the 27-minute (and rarely seen) Meet Marlon Brando, which captures journalists doing exactly that during a press day for the actor’s drama Morituri. Watch these four films to meet the Maysles.
