'Doctor Who' Upcoming Episode Set in World Inhabited by Emoji-Robots
Saturday's episode of the sci-fi series Doctor Who will see the title character and his companion Bill visit a world inhabited by emoji-robots.
"The language of the future is emoji! The Doctor takes Bill to a spectacular city on a distant planet—but where are the colonists? A band of 'cute' droids hold the deadly answer," a BBC America press release said of the episode, which was penned by Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
Doctor Who lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat teased that the episode includes "a fantastic, alien city—among the best we've ever had" and "marvelous new monsters." He also promised the protagonists played by Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie will be "surrounded by jeopardy and menace every second."
'My advice to myself, generally, is: 'Don't look down. Don't be conscious of the scale of the show,'' Capaldi told UPI.
Capaldi told UPI at New York Comic Con he likes that family members of all ages watch the beloved space adventure together.
"It's one of the particular challenges of Doctor Who," he noted. "I think there is no other show that has an audience of this constituency, the age range. It is incredible. So, you always have to remember when you are doing a scene that you are not just entertaining some hipsters or some old people, you've also got to entertain 6-year-olds, 7-year-olds. So, you have to juggle all these balls. Sometimes you might find yourself doing something, you think, 'That's a little bit kiddie.' Then you think: 'No, that's right. It should be kiddie.' Because that's who watches the show, as well as all those other people."
