Liv Moore (Rose McIver) transforms into full-on zombie mode during the action-packed climax of the pilot. “We’re treating it like adrenaline or a drug,” McIver says. “It’s something uncontrollable, impulsive, and instinctive. But it’s a dead giveaway that she’s a zombie, so she has to learn how to temper it when she’s in society.”

McIver is all smiles as finishing touches are applied to her makeup and costume for the scene in the pilot when Liv first emerges as a member of the walking dead. “Rose is asked to do so much,” executive producer Diane Ruggiero-Wright says. “With her character, and the added personality and traits of another character, she’s juggling at least eight balls every episode. She just takes it like a champ.”

Rahul Kohli auditioned to play Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti remotely from London before flying to Vancouver to shoot the pilot. His chemistry with McIver was immediate, executive producer Rob Thomas says, and “now one of our rules is never going five pages [of script] without Ravi and Liv. They’re really the bread and butter of this show.”

Not all zombies are the life of the party, as Liv found out when she tangled with Sebastian (guest star Matthew MacCaull). ”It’s pretty exciting to think Liv may have found others who understand her,” McIver says. “But we realize quite quickly that their intentions are not necessarily as pure or ethical as Liv’s moral code.”

But first, let them take a selfie. Robert Buckley (Major Lilywhite, left) and David Anders (Blaine DeBeers) clown around on the Meat Cute set in between takes. "David has been on everything and has been working like crazy forever," Ruggiero-Wright says. "He is still the coolest, down-to-earth, no-ego, laid-back guy."

Enemies on screen only, McIver and Anders are able to share a laugh during a late-night shoot. “The producers really wanted me to play this character in the vein of James Spader in Pretty in Pink,” Anders says. “I think I went even as far as James Spader in Less Than Zero. I hope I’m bringing any [kind of] Spader to this guy.”
