USA’s critically acclaimed Mr. Robot comes back Wednesday, July 13, for a second season with more of your favorite cyber-vigilantes. And after last season’s tumultuous finale, we’re excited to see the ramifications for Elliot, his sister Darlene, and the rest of the Mr. Robot cast. But where were the stars before they were trying to save the world from corporate greed? Find out in this gallery.

Rami Malek (Elliot)

Then: King Ahkmenrah, Night at the Museum
Now: Elliot
Where do you recognize the Mr. Robot star—and Golden Globe nominee—from? He starred in the Night at the Museum series as King Ahkmenrah in 2006, 2009 and 2014, making him a former co-star of Ben Stiller and Robin Williams. But devoted fans of HBO’s 2010 miniseries The Pacific loved him as “Snafu.”
Heathers, Mr Robot, Christian Slater

Christian Slater (Mr. Robot)

Then: JD, Heathers
Now: Mr. Robot
Slater has been acting since the 1980s and has starred in quite a few films over the years, including Interview with the Vampire, Pump Up the Volume and the Quentin Tarantino penned True Romance. But his most famous role was probably as bad boy J.D. in 1988’s dark comedy Heathers, in which he co-starred with then-girlfriend Winona Ryder. Remember, “chaos is what killed the dinosaurs, darling.”
The Last Song, Mr Robot, Carly Chaikin
David Giesbrecht/USA Network

Carly Chaikin (Darlene)

Then: Blaze, The Last Song
Now: Darlene
You might recognize Chaikin from her role in Suburgatory, but prior to that she was the star of Nicholas Sparks' sobfest The Last Song. Chaikin played Cyrus’ new best friend, Blaze, and formed a friendship with Cyrus off set, as well.
Martin Wallstrom, Simple Simon, Mr Robot
USA Network

Martin Wallström (Tyrell)

Then: Sam, Simple Simon
Now: Tyrell
Before he was Senior Vice President on Mr. Robot, Tyrell was mostly known for his work in Sweden, but some of his work has made it to this side of the pond. Most people recognize him from 2010’s Swedish movie Simple Simon, which was up for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars, and put him onscreen with Hemlock Grove star Bill Skarsgård.
Portia Doubleday, Carrie, Mr Robot
Peter Kramer/USA Network

Portia Doubleday (Angela)

Then: Chris, Carrie
Now: Angela
Before starring as Elliot’s childhood friend, Portia Doubleday wasn’t quite as friendly in 2013’s Carrie, where she played Chris Hargensen, Carrie’s bully, responsible for the infamous pig-blood-at-the-prom incident.
Newsroom, Mr Robot, Grace Gummer
HBO; Nadav Kander/USA Network

Grace Gummer (Dom)

Then: Hallie, The Newsroom

Now: Dom

Joining the cast as a series regular this season, this isn’t Meryl Streep’s daughter’s first role on a critically acclaimed TV show. In 2013, she was on Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom as freelance journalist Hallie Shea.
