The Bold, the Brave and the Badass

We haven't yet seen much of AMC's martial arts drama Into the Badlands, aside from a trailer and the odd image. Now we get to put names with faces with these exclusive character images. Watch the trailer below, then meet Sunny and the gang, inhabitants of a post-apocalyptic America that has more in common with Feudal Japan than the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Sunny (Daniel Wu)

Hong Kong martial arts star Daniel Wu was just an executive producer for the show before showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar cajoled him into taking the lead role. Sunny is a Clipper—a peerless warrior in service to Quinn, one of the seven Barons of the Badlands. After a life of blood and steel, though, Sunny begins to search for a more fulfilling life.

M.K. (Aramis Knight)

Sunny rescues the young M.K. from a gang of Nomads and begins to train him as a Colt (what Clippers are called while still in training). He soon finds the boy has an aptitude for violence far beyond the natural.

The Widow (Emily Beecham)

The only female Baron and the newest of the seven, the Widow displays a toughness that surpasses her male counterparts. Her army of Clippers is a girls-only outfit who call themselves Butterflies. Unlike their graceful, mild namesakes, the Widow and her Clippers pack a powerful sting in the form of throwing stars.

Tilda (Alexia Ioannides)

One of the Widow's Butterflies, Tilda is just 16 but already lethal. After a relatively uncomplicated life, she comes across M.K., and the two form a bond that puts her loyalty to The Widow to the test.

Quinn (Martin Csokas) and Lydia (Orla Brady)

Baron Quinn would never have clawed his way to the top without his first wife, Lydia, a sharp and devoted woman who must find a way to hold on to her husband as he takes a second wife, the lowborn Cog Jade.

Ryder (Oliver Stark)

Quinn and Lydia's son is a bit of a hothead—understandable after his childhood experience as a kidnappee. Quinn refused to pay the ransom, and the boy was tortured before his eventual release, warping him into an angry, impulsive young man who nonetheless craves his father's approval.

Veil (Madeleine Mantock)

Veil makes the best prosthetic limbs around, and is a pretty decent physician to boot. The orphan Veil was given to a doctor as a child by Quinn, who's dead set on being treated by her. Sunny can't help but form an attachment to her—a big no-no for the Clippers, who have foresworn creating a family of their own.
