Oh, baby! Mistresses, ABC’s unapologetically sudsy summer dramedy, returns for Season 4, and this time around, it’s a family affair. When we last left the group of drama-prone L.A. pals, Karen (Yunjin Kim), still reeling after a three-way romance with a married couple, was pregnant; Joss (Jes Macallan) was shaking off false murder charges; and April (Rochelle Aytes) was falling hard for Marc (Rob Mayes), a recovering alcoholic. Now, more than a year has gone by and we’re seeing the fruits of their labors. “My baby is so cute!” raves Kim of the pint-size addition to the roster. “We can never tell what she’s going to do!”

Motherhood isn’t the only change afoot. The once straitlaced Karen—sporting a freshly shorn hairdo—will publish a hit memoir about her racy relationship history. “She becomes a well-known ‘sexpert,’ which is a title she’s not completely comfortable with,” Kim says. She’ll be equally wary of the feelings that she’s developing for her daughter’s hot manny, Robert (Jerry O’Connell). Says Kim, “She’s trying not to cross the line, but there’s a huge attraction between them.”

While Karen is doing her best to remain single, burgeoning PR whiz Joss is poised to take a giant leap forward with her celeb chef love, Harry (Brett Tucker). But “things may not be as perfect as they appear,” Kim warns. And single mom April will experience some buyer’s remorse following her decision to cohabitate with Marc. Says Kim, “He’s much younger and not pitching in financially, and the big question is: Can he measure up?”

We’ll find out soon enough—perhaps with help from another new character, Harry’s sister, Kate, arriving in Episode 2. “She’s the missing piece. We always need that fourth lady,” Kim says of the position that was previously held by departed cast members Alyssa Milano (Savi) and Jennifer Esposito (Calista). “The overall theme of our show is friendship and helping each other to deal with this crazy life!

Mistresses, Season Premiere, Monday, May 30, 10/9c, ABC.
