Nashville will not return for a Season 5, TV Insider has confirmed.

The musical drama had been firmly on the bubble, but in recent months had shown positive signs of life: showrunners Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick had been tapped to lead a potential fifth season.

The series, led by Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere, has been successful, musically, off-screen, with the show producing multiple albums of original songs and nationwide tours.

The Nashville series finale will air on May 25.
