What’s Worth Watching: ‘Outlander’, ‘Sleepy Hollow’, ‘Saturday Night Live’ and more for Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9.

Outlander
Ed Miller / Starz
Outlander Season 2 2016

Outlander (Saturday, 9/8c, Starz): Torn between two worlds and times, hoping to avert tragic history because she’s apparently never heard of the “Butterfly Effect,” Claire Randall Fraser (the exquisite Caitriona Balfe) is one of pop fiction and TV’s great heroines, and as she and a still-recovering Jamie (Sam Heughan) embark on a second season of romantic intrigue in 1700s France, this ravishing drama has never looked better. As great as the leads are, Tobias Menzies is every bit their equal, likely to break one’s heart when glimpsed as 20th-century Frank Randall, realizing he’s lost his hold on his long-missing wife’s affections.

The Adult Swim Golf Classic (Friday, 11:30/10:30c, Adult Swim): Take a break from coverage of The Masters tournament to savor this twisted parody re-creation of a 1960s-era charity tournament, in which Jon Daly (Kroll Show) and Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation) pretend to be competitive (yet hilariously hapless) golfers John Daly and Adam Scott—the latter not to be confused with the actual Australian golf pro. Unless you want to be.

Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt & Anderson Cooper (Saturday, 9/8c, HBO): Now 91, the notorious “poor little rich girl” socialite-turned-fashion maven opens up to her equally famous son, CNN’s Anderson Cooper, in an intensely personal series of reflective conversations on the scandals, loves and losses that define Gloria Vanderbilt’s unique sensibility and her family’s history. Stranger and more fantastic than fairy-tale fiction.

Inside Weekend TV: As usual, the future of humanity is at stake as a third season of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow (Friday, 8/7c) wraps—with Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Abbie (Nicole Beharie) determined to take down The Hidden One (Peter Mensah) by any means necessary. … Missed any or all of FX’s excellent The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story? The entire 10-part miniseries will be replayed in an all-day marathon Saturday (starts at 2 pm/1c), with the first hour airing commercial-free. And then start placing your bets for Sarah Paulson (Marcia Clark), Courtney B. Vance (Johnnie Cochran) and Sterling K. Brown (Christopher Darden), among others in the remarkable ensemble, at this year’s Emmys. … On a special night, TBS’s late-night Conan airs an extended episode (11/10c) recounting the host’s recent trip to South Korea, accompanied by The Walking Dead‘s Steven Yuen. … How is it possible that Russell Crowe has never hosted NBC’s Saturday Night Live before? That will be remedied this week (Saturday, 11:30/10:30), as he guest-hosts alongside musical guest Margo Price, also making her debut.
