Stephan James has joined the upcoming Fox event series, Shots Fired.

Shots Fired follows the aftermath of a racially charged shooting in a small town in Tennesee.

James—who can currently be seen in the Jesse Owens biopic, Race, as Owens—will portray Treston, a prosecutor from the Department of Justice. Preston will be digging into what happened with the shooting alongside an expert investigator (portrayed by Sanaa Lathan).

Shots Fired is from Beyond the Lights producers Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood, and by Undisputed Cinema and Imagine Television, in association with 20th Century Fox Television. The event series is expected to debut in 2016.
