Saturday Night Live (Saturday, 11:30/10:30c, NBC): There's no curbing our enthusiasm for Larry David's hilarious impersonation of Bernie Sanders, possibly the most talked-about Saturday Night Live mimicry since Tina Fey started channeling Sarah Palin. David's surprise appearances earlier this season were such a hit, he's now making his debut as guest host. British band The 1975 is the musical guest, also a first-timer.

Michael Jackson's Journey from Motown to Off the Wall (Friday, 9/8c, Showtime): Spike Lee directs this documentary following the future King of Pop's evolution from Jackson 5's breakout star to solo artist, with the blockbuster 1979 LP Off the Wall. Jackson's parents, brother Jackie and Marlon, and some of today's most influential musical celebrities look back on the impact of Jackson's breakthrough, enhanced with footage from Michael's archives.

Jim: The James Foley Story (Saturday, 9/8c, HBO): The weekend's don't-miss documentary, winner of a Sundance Audience Award, is a devastating and inspiring profile of moral courage, recounting in intimate and affecting detail the life and death of the war journalist who, after two years of captivity, was beheaded by ISIS terrorists in 2014. In Jim's most remarkable sequence, Foley's surviving fellow prisoners testify to his grace under harrowing pressure. His parents and siblings remember Jim as a loving, restless soul whose need to tell of others' struggles continually put him in harm's way.

Inside Weekend TV: The hype surrounding Sunday's Super Bowl 50 is louder than usual, including CBS's two-hour celebration of Super Bowl's Greatest Halftime Shows (Friday, 9/8c). Wonder if the infamous Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" will be revisited? … It's a Community reunion when Joel McHale and Danny Pudi guest on Ken Jeong's Dr. Ken (Friday, 8:30/7:30c). … John Legend receives the NAACP President's Award as a highlight of The 47th Annual NAACP Image Awards (Friday, 9/8c, TV One). … A busy Friday on HBO, as Gloria Steinem and Erin Brockovich appear on Real Time With Bill Maher (10/9c), the fourth season of Vice (11/10c) begins with reports on the war against Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria, and the animated Animals (11:30/10:30c) premieres, giving droll voice to much-maligned creatures like rats and bedbugs. … Charles Manson's (Jeff Ward) "Helter Skelter" reign of terror is seen through the eyes of Manson's Lost Girls in a new Lifetime movie (Saturday, 8/7c), starring MacKenzie Mauzy (Forever), Awkward's Greer Grammer and Eden Brolin as some of the cult leader's top acolytes.
